About the Role: The Head of People and Culture will oversee the HR, recruitment, culture and learning & development functions for the organization. They are responsible for ensuring a high performing organization with strong morale and good labor relations. This person provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and empathetic management as part of the senior leadership team. They will work closely with the elected Officers, Chief of Staff and the leadership team to infuse antiracism, cross-racial solidarity, justice, and equity into every aspect of our work.
Responsibilities:
- Build and manage a strategic, high-performing people and culture team with a focus on building excellence and centering equity across the organization
- With input from elected leaders, staff and members, craft and implement a justice and antiracism strategy that creates an environment of equity, inclusion, and belonging for all team members
- Improve SEIU Local 2015’s HR operations in order to help the organization meet our mission, vision, and values
- Foster a strong culture of growth, development and feedback
- Centralize the recruitment function to improve speed, quality, and diversity in hiring
- Develop a new leadership and development function that serves the organization’s staff, managers, and member leaders to ensure that people are well-equipped to be successful in their roles
- Oversee creation of a manager development program to develop management skills amongst new and existing managers; regularly coach managers through challenges and opportunities
- Manage organizational risk, including legal and reputational risks
- Be a trusted source of advice and information to all team members and leaders
- Lead on building an organizational culture that uplifts SEIU Local 2015 Core values: leadership, compassion, empowerment, accountability, transparency and excellence.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience managing people or HR teams
- 10+ years of experience working in people or HR functions
- Experience working with a staff union is a plus
- Proven success in recruiting high performing, diverse talent at high velocity
- Experience developing training and development systems across individual contributors and managers
- Experience leading an organization to become more diverse, equitable, and inclusive through strong antiracism programming and coaching
- Extraordinary emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills – up, down, across, and externally <
