Senior Data Infrastructure Engineer
WorkhumanAbout the role
Job Description:
The Opportunity
The Senior Data Infrastructure Engineer will play a pivotal role in scaling and evolving our production data infrastructure. You’ll join a collaborative, cross-functional team composed of Data, Infrastructure, and QA specialists, and will act as a technical leader within that group. This role combines deep technical work with mentorship and strategic influence: you’ll guide architectural decisions, champion best practices, and ensure our infrastructure meets the demands of a growing data platform. You’ll also help define the technical roadmap, align infrastructure initiatives with business priorities, and coach other engineers in their development. As a senior member of the team, your work will have a visible and direct impact on the scalability, reliability, and velocity of data initiatives across the company.
What We Can Offer You
Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-effective infrastructure to support data-intensive workloads across batch and streaming systems.
Lead the architecture and implementation of monitoring solutions that go beyond basic alerting to include service-level objectives (SLOs), error budgets, and anomaly detection.
Drive performance optimization across storage, compute, and networking, including deep dives into Redshift, Spark, and Iceberg workloads.
Maintain and improve infrastructure automation using Terraform and CI/CD systems, with a focus on reusability, consistency, and testing.
Act as technical lead during incident response, coordinating efforts across teams, guiding root cause analysis, and embedding learnings through post-incident reviews.
Forecast capacity and resource needs based on platform growth, supporting both reactive and proactive scaling strategies.
Track and optimize infrastructure spend while maintaining performance SLAs and reliability goals.
Collaborate with security and data governance teams to implement secure-by-design infrastructure and ensure compliance with internal and external data policies.
Partner closely with data engineering and analytics teams to understand platform needs, troubleshoot production issues, and accelerate delivery of data products.
Influence tooling and process improvements across the engineering organization, including adoption of Kubernetes-native patterns, GitOps workflows, and event-driven architecture.
The Skills You Will Bring
At least 6+ years of experience managing cloud infrastructure, with deep experience in data infrastructure and modern cloud-native architectures.
Strong expertise in AWS services, particularly Redshift, EKS, S3, IAM, and networking. Familiarity with Athena, EMR, Apache Spark, Kafka, Iceberg, Airflow, and similar data-centric tools.
Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Terraform, including the design of modular and reusable infrastructure components.
Proficient in Python or similar languages for scripting, automation, and contributing to internal tooling.
Solid understanding of Kubernetes operations, Helm/Kustomize, and running both stateless and stateful workloads in production.
Strong grasp of multi-environment and multi-account cloud strategies, including shared VPCs, cross-account IAM, and centralized observability.
Familiarity with data security, including encryption, audit logging, and access control mechanisms aligned with GDPR or similar frameworks.
Proven track record of mentoring engineers, fostering inclusive technical discussions, and leading by example.
