National Grid is hiring a Lead Analyst, Strategy Development in Boston, MA
This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days a week onsite in Boston, MA.
Job Purpose
The energy transition poses challenging strategic questions for us as a business and for the wider sector. US Strategy leads on answering these strategic questions with leaders of National Grid’s US operations in New York, New England and across the country and on behalf of the nearly six million customers they serve.
Key Accountabilities
Within the US Strategy team, you will support the organisation in defining its strategic direction and how to adapt to the changing energy environment, enabling net zero and drive the organisation’s future growth. As part of the role, you will enjoy exceptional exposure to the Executive Committee and senior leadership teams, working on the highest priority issues. The role can offer the opportunity for the right individual to move to other business roles within National Grid.
As a Lead Analyst, Strategy Development, you will develop strategic plans that support the annual operation of the US Gas and Electric Business units. In this role, you will work with the entire US Strategy team to create recommendations that will be presented to senior leaders for their consideration when solving complex issues. You will be joining a strategic function that will have an impact on helping National Grid achieve its vision of creating a clean, fair, and affordable energy future!
You will:
- Perform research tasks and assist in the development of analysis that underpin strategic recommendations for the US gas and electric businesses
- Develop and apply market insights to improve business planning, developing business cases supported by robust financial analysis
- Support engagement of US business stakeholders to develop and gain alignment on positions in support of the strategy
- Support development of high-quality visual and written materials to communicate strategic recommendations for Board or Executive-level audiences
- Develop and standardize best practice strategy research, analysis, and presentation tools and techniques to produce Executive-ready outputs
Desired skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Proven ability to develop quantitative models and work with a range of data inputs (Excel-based)
- Mission-driven to positively impact the clean energy transition
- Comfortable in a matrix organization and engaging stakeholders at various levels of seniority collaboratively and consultatively
- Strong team player - the US Strategy team is a small, specialized team that shares resources across projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in economics, finance, or related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in an analytical position
- Experience developing written and presentation material
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills and ability to convey complex strategic ideas to a wide range of audiences
- Knowledge of utility (power and natural gas) sector and issues affecting the industry is a plus
- Experience as a Management Consultant or in Strategy roles is a plus

Salary
$127,000 - $149,000 a year
Salary commensurate with location and experience
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
