About the role

We are looking for a Director, Infrastructure to lead a small, centralised, governance-focused Infrastructure team during a period of material transition.

We’re looking for an experienced leader to help our product engineering teams to own and operate their own infrastructure. The will help to enable this ownership safely and consistently through strong platform foundations, Infrastructure as Code, and pragmatic governance.

As Director, Infrastructure, you will set the strategy, standards and guardrails that allow 80+ developers across multiple product teams to provision, operate and reason about their own cloud infrastructure with confidence. You will lead the organisation’s transition towards Terraform-first delivery, well-defined cloud account boundaries, secure access models, and transparent cost ownership.

AWS is our primary cloud platform, but we operate a significant Azure estate. You will own senior vendor relationships (including cloud providers and resellers), and be accountable for cloud financial management in a private-equity environment where cost visibility, value articulation and ROI matter.

This is a hands-on leadership role: small team, high leverage, and close partnership with Engineering, Security, Finance and Product.

Main Responsibilities

Infrastructure Strategy & Enablement

  • Define and execute the cloud infrastructure strategy aligned to a product-team-owned operating model
  • Establish clear platform standards, reference architectures and paved roads for teams to self-serve infrastructure safely
  • Lead the organisation-wide adoption of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform as the primary mechanism)
  • Design and govern cloud account/subscription structures, network boundaries and shared services
  • Ensure infrastructure patterns support scalability, resilience, security and operational excellence

Governance, Security & Access

  • Partner closely with our CISO to define and enforce pragmatic, developer-friendly controls
  • Own cloud access models (IAM, role-based access, break-glass processes)
  • Ensure compliance requirements are met without slowing delivery
  • Set clear expectations around ownership, accountability and operational responsibility for infrastructure

Financial Management & FinOps

  • Own cloud financial governance across AWS and Azure
  • Build and mature FinOps practices where they add real value (cost visibility, accountability, optimisation)
  • Ensure teams have access to timely, understandable cost data for their services
  • Enable engineering leaders to articulate cost vs value and ROI in planning and review cycles
  • Manage commitments, discounts and optimisation levers with cloud providers and resellers

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a small, high-impact Infrastructure team focused on enablement, not tickets
  • Set clear priorities and guardrails for when the team builds, advises, or steps aside
  • Coach engineers and managers across the organisation on infrastructure ownership and best practices
  • Contribute as part of the senior Technology leadership team

Essential Criteria

  • 3+ years experience in a senior leadership infrastructure, platform or cloud engineering roles
  • Deep experience operating AWS at scale; strong working knowledge of Azure
  • Strong hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform in a multi-team environment
  • Proven experience designing cloud governance models that balance autonomy and control
  • Experience owning and managing significant cloud spend in a SaaS organisation
  • Ability to work credibly with Engineering, Security, Finance and executive stakeholders
  • Comfortable operating in a private-equity-backed or cost-conscious environment<
