TITLE 

 Director, Digital Strategies & Scholarship

JOB SUMMARY 

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Integrated Library Resources and Support, this position works closely with administrative and library colleagues to carry out the mission of the Libraries by providing leadership, direction, and oversight of the Digital Strategies and Scholarship unit in support of the University’s academic programs and research initiatives. The Director of Digital Strategies and Scholarship leads areas related to digital collections, digital projects, digital services, website design, institutional repository, scholarly communication, and copyright compliance. This position works collaboratively with all three campus libraries and serves as a member of the Libraries’ administrative leadership team, setting the direction and goals for the TWU Libraries. This position works to ensure that library resources and services are appropriate and accessible to TWU students, faculty, and staff and that the Libraries are responsible stewards of the University’s financial resources. Timely communication and adherence to deadlines is a critical part of this position. This is a supervisory position which is responsible for hiring, training, evaluating, and mentoring staff. The Director sets goals, priorities, initiates projects, implements standards, and develops workflow procedures. This is a security sensitive position that works under minimal supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to:      Assistant Dean, Integrated Library Resources and Support

Supervises:     Digital Scholarship Librarian, Digital Lab Supervisor, Imaging and Preservation    
   Librarian, Coordinator, Library Reserves and Digital Services

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

  1. Provides leadership, coordination, assessment, and overall management of the Digital Strategies and Scholarship unit.  
  2. Plans, develops, and implements policies and procedures for the efficient operation of the unit and its services.
  3. Develops strategic plans for the Digital Strategies and Scholarship unit.
  4. Communicates and coordinates Digital Strategies and Scholarship unit issues through collaboration with all other areas of the Library.
  5. Serves on the Library Administrative Team, providing strategic direction for the Libraries in general and for the Digital Strategies and Scholarship unit area individually.
  6. Prepares departmental operating and spending plans.
  7. Provides expertise to guide staff through change that impacts services.
  8. Contributes to a collaborative and collegial work environment.
  9. Initiates, develops, manages, and prioritizes projects in assigned areas to meet expected outcomes.
  10. Participates in the development and implementation of Library policies.
  11. Sets priorities and promotes initiatives that align with the University’s strategic plan and contribute library value to the TWU community.
  12. Coordinates partnership between TWU and the Texas Digital Libraries.
  13. Provides vision, strategic direction, and system administration for the Libraries’ digital collections systems.
  14. Oversees the development of digital collections, digital exhibits to promote and enhance access to all library materials.
  15. Develops policies and procedures for the digital curation of born-digital and digitized materials in accordance with professional best practices and national standards.
  16. Coordinates education of faculty and students on resources and services related to research data management, copyright, authors’ rights, open access, open journals, Repository@TWU, open educational resources, licensing, and other digital initiatives. 
  17. Collaborates and provides guidance to campus committees, departments, and units that focus on digital initiatives, scholarly communications, open educational resources, or similar initiatives. 
  18. Collaborates with the Library Events & External Relations unit to ensure the usability, accuracy, and content of the TWU Libraries webpages. 
  19. Hires, trains, and develops staff in the Digital Strategies and Schola
