Family Medicine Physician - HIV (Humble, Spring, Mobile Unit)

About the role

Overview:

Commensurate with training and experience; the Family Medicine Physician – HIV delivers comprehensive primary health care services to patients living with HIV/ AIDS. The Family Medicine Physician – HIV will be a practicing physician with a background in family medicine.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Examines, diagnoses and treats adult patients.

· Provides medication management and surveillance of surrogate markers for HIV positive population. Must be able to interpret specialized testing for HIV patients including resistance testing.

· Provides direct clinical care and management of patients living with HIV/AIDS.

· Performs initial history and physical and ongoing outpatient care

· Prescribes medications within defined scope of practice.

· Orders diagnostic studies (e.g.-x-rays, lab tests, ECG).

· Provides education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs.

· Performs all duties and services in full compliance with Ryan White, Joint Commission and funding source standards.

· Perform quality management/assurance activities.

· Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

· Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.

· Order, perform, and interpret tests and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' condition.

· Collect, record, and maintain patient information in a timely manner, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.

· Monitor patients' conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.

· Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention including risk reduction and safe sex discussion.

· Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.

· Coordinate work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other health care providers and ancillary staff.

· Direct and/or coordinate activities of nurses, students, medical assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff.

· Plan, implement, or administer health programs or standards on behalf of Avenue 360 Health and Wellness for prevention or treatment of STIs and HIV and AIDS.

· Prepare government or organizational reports which include birth, death, and disease statistics, workforce evaluations, or medical status of individuals.

· Supervise Nurse Practitioners as needed

· Be well versed and trained for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)) protocols as well as occupational (PEP) and non occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis (nPEP). Also familiar with protocols for Rapid Initiation of HIV treatment.

· Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Licensure/Certification and Skills/Abilities Related Requirements:

· Must be in possession of a valid MD or DO license to practice in the State of Texas.

· Board certification required.

· Valid DEA and DPS controlled substances certificate required.

· Current credentialing in good standing from the American Academy of HIV Medicine highly preferred, or equivalent working knowledge of HIV/AIDS treatment

· HBV and HCV treatment experience preferred.

· Have a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine and allied services commensurate with his/her training.

· Must possess the appropriate experience through having provided direct care to at least 20 HIV infected patients in the past two years.

· Requires valid BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

· Demonstrate a special interest in the area of community medicine.

· Ability to relate to culturally diverse patients and communities.

· Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Continuing Education and Training Requirements:

· Requires completion of 30 credits of HIV coursework in the past 24 months.

· Participates in on-going trainings required by the funding source and/or as required by licensure.
