Chief Nursing Officer Medical Practice - Danbury, CT Full-time: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Summary:

As a member of the NHMP executive leadership team, the Chief Nursing Officer, Medical Practices is the clinical nursing partner to the system chairs, administrative leads as well as non-clinician staff in primary care and medical subspecialties.

The CNO will be an influential leader, guiding the execution of the strategic plan while supporting the organizational mission and vision.

S/he will build on collegial relationships within the system to enhance synergies within the health system. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of NHMP

The CNO will be responsible and accountable for the overall delivery and management of nursing professional practice, education, professional development, research, administration, and clinical services within the practices. The CNO is responsible for the alignment of nursing care across the system’s clinical practice settings through appropriate standardization and the identification and adoption of evidence based clinical guidelines and consistent management standards to reduce variation in practice.

The CNO ensures that the clinical and quality standards for the practice staff are supported and aligned with the systems goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the organizational values, goals, and objectives are transformed into daily operations resulting in an excellent quality, efficient, effective, caring and respectful environment.
  • Provides leadership, support, and coaching for the practice of nursing throughout the Medical Practices and is accountable for nursing practice, quality, education/professional development and research throughout.
  • Provides leadership to define the scope of nursing practice and establishes structures, role accountability and systems to ensure clinical competence of all nursing personnel.
  • Recommends and is responsible for creating annual operating and capital budgets related to supplies and medication/vaccines for the Medical Practices and ensures alignment with Value Based Care initiatives.
  • Creates a healthy work environment that is safe, respectful, and collaborative.
  • Builds credibility trust and partners with physicians as a champion for patient care, quality, service, and nursing professionalism.
  • Develops effective working relationships with key stakeholders and system leaders.
  • Manages organizational relationships in a way that builds and maintains a climate of trust and inspires commitment from others to achieve organization goals.
  • Promotes professional nursing practice and assures that standards of care are developed, implemented, and evaluated.
  • Assures standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice are consistent with current research and professional standards.
  • Provides consultation and collaboration with nurses, physicians, and leaders in establishing policies for patient care.
  • Drives continuous quality improvement, standards of care, discovery, and innovation through research and use of best, evidence-based practices.
  • Understands healthcare financing and educates others on business metrics and how patient care decisions impact the success of the hospital.
  • Coaches, mentors, advises, develops and supports his/her direct management reports, other nursing leaders, councils, work groups and committees.

Education, Skills and Experience: 

  • Master’s Degree and a minimum of 10 years of clinical experience with oversight of delivering patient care in an outpatient environment. Have at least 10 years' progressive administrative or management experience in an ambulatory setting with an emphasis on a quality or safety.
  • An academic degree in nursing is required, and a Master’s degree in Nursing or related health field (Health Administration, Business, Public Health, or Management) is strongly preferred.
  • An advanced level of knowledge acquired through completion of formal and continuing education in Nursing, health policy, regulatory compliance, process redesign and management are essential.
  • Extensive clinical nursing and management experience with a minimum of seven (7) years in senior nursing leadership role
  • Nursing leadership experience in an academic medical center or complex healthcare organization is required, preferably in a healthcare system.
  • Knowledge of nursing staffing methods, retention, recruitment, and finance.
  • Proven strategic-thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills
