We are seeking a dynamic and collaborative HR business partner consultant to join our Property & Casualty Commercial Lines, Excess and Surplus & Specialty (CLESS) HR team. In this role, you will be the primary business partner for a team(s) in the CLESS Operations area.   You’ll also partner closely with other members of the HR team to support various projects and initiatives that help drive business outcomes.

This is a hybrid work schedule and can be located in Des Moines, IA or Columbus, OH.

As an HR Consultant, you will provide support to one or more business units serving as a strategic partner in supporting the business on various people, organization and talent priorities. You’ll be uniquely positioned to develop a proven understanding of the business by working closely with leaders. You’ll work across HR and business functions, enabling you to be an informed and effective member of the team while having an opportunity to learn, use and grow a variety of skills, including thought leadership, innovation, project management, analysis, organizational change and leader and associate development.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports HR, business leaders and associates to execute key HR programs and critical initiatives. Advises, influences and collaborates on people and talent strategies to drive business success.

  • Connects with our Centers of Expertise (COEs) to develop and/or deliver HR initiatives and processes that include: organizational planning, talent management, associate relations, organizational design, compensation and performance management to provide creative strategies and solutions for the business.

  • Supports leadership teams on business and associate issues. Understands the goals and strategies of the business and uses HR resources to support meeting business goals.

  • Advises, coaches, and leads initiatives for associates and managers to successfully use HR processes and resources to achieve high performance, exceed strategic objectives and adapt to and manage organizational and business changes.

  • Proactively partners with our recruiting team to develop successful recruiting plans of new associates.

  • Serves on both HR and business unit committees, including developing and leading special projects.

  • Analyzes data and trends and develops and implements plans to improve associate experiences, including retention, engagement, innovation, and culture.

  • Maintains compliance on all federal, state and local regulations. Maintains security and integrity of data including personal and confidential information.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to business unit HR leader or Director. This is an individual contributor role. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in human resources, business administration or related field preferred. 

License/Certification/Designation: Professional human resources designation preferred or interest in furthering HR knowledge and expertise by pursuing certification.

Experience: Typically, eight or more years of demonstrated experience in human resources or business operations.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Demonstrable knowledge of HR practices, performance management, change management, associate relations, legal compliance, recruiting and one or more HR specialties. Effective interpersonal, communication, consulting, advising and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to set work priorities, analyze performance and retention issues analyze workforce metrics and data, and make recommendations or implement solutions.
