The Team:
Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST) is the government dental provider, employing a multidisciplined team of skilled dental professionals, who provide dental services to children and eligible adults within this state. This fixed term position is for the role of Senior Dental Assistant, providing operational and clinical oversight and support for the team of dental assistants employed with OHST.
The Role:
The Senior Dental Assistant is responsible for:
- Working closely with the Regional Management Team to ensure clinical support is provided by Dental Assistants in a professional, effective and efficient manner.
- Coordinating, directing and supporting Dental Assistants, Sterilisation Technicians and Trainee Dental Assistants within Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST).
- Acting as the first point of contact for staff in relation to Dental Assistants, Sterilisation Technicians and Trainee Dental Assistants and providing a clear liaison role between the different professional groups within OHST.
You will need to:
- Provide coordination, direction and support for Dental Assistants, Sterilisation Technicians and Trainee Dental Assistants and liaise with external providers including Registered Training Organisations, TAFE Assessors and Employee Assistance Providers in relation to the dental assistant/sterilisation technician workforce.
- Manage Dental Assistants’ leave including unplanned absences and prepare the OHST regional clinic rosters in collaboration with other staff where required.
- Coordinate the recruitment, orientation, and training of new Dental Assistants, Sterilisation Technicians and Trainee Dental Assistants. Provide advice and support to Dental Assistants, Sterilisation Technicians and Trainee Dental Assistants to effectively balance people and operational requirements.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term part time, day worker, working 45.6 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 12 February 2027.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $81,915 to $94,263 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
