This position works in the FM electric Shop as a mechanical specialist and performs defined responsibilities and tasks related to maintaining the operations of assigned mechanical systems and life safety. Mechanical Specialists in the electric shop are dedicated to performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and installing and inspecting systems. They respond to emergent work, make repairs during power outages, respond to service calls and call backs, maintain generators, fire alarms, emergency lights, fire extinguishers, fire suppression, etc. They maintain all campus life safety systems. Full-time, regular position, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Daily work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This position pays $25.56/hour.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Performs skilled work in assigned department operations and maintenance, which includes inspecting, installing, and troubleshooting life safety systems.
Tests and inspects generators, fire alarms, emergency lights, smoke, heat, pull stations, A/V units etc.
Services and inspects fire extinguishers.
Monitors and troubleshoots assigned systems; processes
and responds to work orders to ensure progress, safety, and/or compliance with operational policies and procedures
Maintains and repairs assigned equipment as needed; performs ongoing maintenance checks to determine need and ensure operational safety.
Maintains a variety of operational records, logs, and reports.
Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, lap top computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments.
Requisitions material and supplies from stockroom, calls vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies, and recommends purchases and suppliers.
Reads complex blueprints, piping, sketches, schematics and wiring diagrams.

Qualifications:
Required:
High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and three years related experience.
Valid Maine Drivers License
Customer service principles
Specialized equipment and system maintenance and repair
Maintenance of related equipment
Recordkeeping principles
