Raytheon’s Surface Radars and Sensors (SR&S) Center, Huntsville AL Department, is seeking a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to join the System Design and Requirements Capability team as part of the System Engineering & Integration Team (SE&IT) in Huntsville, AL. The successful candidate will lead cross-functional teams to develop system level architecture and requirements to influence Missile Defense Agency (MDA) incremental capability. The candidate will use Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to evaluate architectural impacts through functional and behavior analysis for the defeat of conventional and advanced Threats (i.e., ballistic, aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.) systems within the (MDA) mission areas. The Systems Engineer will collaborate in an MBSE environment to develop system-of-systems requirements via system/component trade studies and analysis and lead the development of Change Notices (CNs) to MDA’s system specification to include functional, interface and performance requirements, architectural models, interface definitions, and support Trace verification from System to Element level requirements. The RSE will develop and deliver products (i.e., technical briefings, CNs) to support internal and MDA stakeholder reviews.
What You Will Do
- Lead cross‑functional teams to develop system‑level architectures and requirements for MDA incremental capability.
- Perform functional and behavioral analysis using MBSE methods and tools such as Cameo/MSOSA.
- Conduct system and component trade studies to develop system‑of‑systems requirements.
- Develop and manage Change Notices (CNs) for updates to MDA system specifications, including functional, interface, and performance requirements.
- Create and maintain architectural models and interface definitions.
- Support requirement traceability from system to element level using DOORS or similar tools.
- Prepare and deliver technical products, including briefings and CN packages, for internal and MDA stakeholder reviews.
- Coordinate closely with the customer and collaborate within a small engineering team.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
- Experience with architecture development, functional decomposition, and/or requirements allocation.
- Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS).
- Experience with system-modeling tools (MSOSA and/or Cameo).
- Experience with Missile Defense Agency (e.g., Aegis, GMD, GPI, HBTSS, Fire Control, C2BMC, and/or EO/IR/RF sensors).
Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience modeling or simulating missile defense or related domains (air combat, air defense, ballistic and non‑ballistic intercepts, space vehicles, sub‑orbital mechanics).
- Knowledge of ballistic and advanced threat systems (aero‑maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper‑glide, countermeasures).
- Modeling and analysis experience with missile defense systems such as Aegis, GMD, GPI, HBTSS, Fire Control, C2BMC, EO/IR/RF sensors, kill vehicles, and interceptors.
- Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems.
