Senior Product Designer

THE PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE 

To understand the needs of our users and to produce design solutions which are both usable and desirable, whilst balancing the objectives of our business. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, product designers and other stakeholders to steer the direction of our product by crafting beautifully intuitive designs that solve real problems. You will spearhead discovery activities to uncover opportunities to delight our customers and collaborate closely with our product engineering teams to build empathy and ship beautiful experiences. 

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING 

PRODUCT DESIGN 

• Designing user experiences that bring value to our customers by collaborating with cross-functional teams on solutions, balancing usability, feasibility, and viability. 

• Planning and conducting discovery activities to gather insights which help us understand user needs and to inform your design decisions. 
• Understanding and mapping complex business processes, workflows, and current state journeys to align teams on the problem to solve. 
• Crafting intuitive, elegant user interfaces. 
• Working with the design and product teams to help articulate and refine a vision for the broader Actionstep product family. 
• Leading workshops to share insights and take teams on journeys to build empathy and shared understanding. 
• Generating a wide range of design solutions to user problems which deliver value to users across Actionstep – falling in love with the problem, not a particular solution. 
• Producing immersive prototypes that demonstrate the interaction flows a user will take, and testing these with users as early as possible to validate your ideas. 
• Modernising legacy aspects of our products and ensuring consistency across our product family. 
• Working closely with engineers to ensure a quality user experience is implemented, providing detailed specs and artifacts which aid in the efficient delivery of new features. 
• Collaborating with the broader design team and front-end craft to refine and develop our design system to ensure consistency across our product family and efficiency in delivery. 
• Actively participating in design reviews and workshops with the design team.

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with all internal and external parties ensuring transparent, proactive and effective communication always. 
• Attending and proactively contributing to customer, partner and internal meetings with the view to add value in a constructive manner. 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 

• Actively looking to build own career through delivery of self and assisted professional development initiatives.  
• Staying abreast of industry best practice patterns, products and technologies and assisting in process improvement activities as required.

Requirements

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW AND WHAT WILL HELP MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL 

• 5+ years product design experience, ideally with experience working on complex B2B software. 
• Proficiency with the latest design and prototyping tools (e.g. Figma). 
• Experience working across the entire design process. 
• A track record developing and maintaining design systems. 
• Expertise in designing elegant UIs, and attention to detail when it comes to making UI design decisions and communicating these. 
• Experience planning and conducting user research and applying insights to your design work. 
• Experience utilizing usage data to help inform design decisions. 
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate design solutions clearly and tell stories to help influence outcomes 
• A growth mindset: always eager to listen, learn, solicit feedback, explain decisions. Can make compromises to ensure the best outcome for our users and for Actionstep.
