About the role

Position Overview

Novelis Oswego has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Process Leader! The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for process engineers and specialists within an aluminium manufacturing facility, specializing in continuous heat treatment and pretreatment of flat rolled products. This position will work with cross functional teams to optimize the process and deliver superior quality to our customers. This position reports to the CASH Process Leader. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of 3-5 Process Engineers and Process Specialists, overseeing all aspects of team management, including annual performance review, resource deployment, and growth.
  • Serve as an advisor to Process Engineers to meet project timelines and/or resolve technical problems.
  • Organize and direct team’s efforts when upset conditions are experienced in the process. Lead immediate and long-term problem-solving efforts.
  • Assist in formulating and implementing the short and long-range goals for the CASH process team.
  • Develop and maintain process controls (KPIs, recovery, etc.), identify and execute process improvement opportunities, and collaborate with operations and EMRA groups to deliver current and future process needs.
  • Maintain quality systems requirements in all areas of responsibility. Be the voice for the customer in requesting appropriate documentation be completed from others not on direct team (i.e. MOC, work instructions, etc.).
  • Identify areas of improvement in the processing and quality of products run in immediate department.
  • Coordinate and/or perform 8D’s for all significant failures in area of responsibility.
  • Understand automotive product specifications and ensure we are in a position to meet or exceed the needs.
  • Continuous Improvement is a key element to this position.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a technical role as a process or product engineer in the metals industry
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload; manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail.
  • Solid computer skills with software applications, including Microsoft Office. Ability to learn new software programs quickly.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to communicate with all levels in the organization.
  • Desire to take initiative and develop a pro-active relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and fostering a collaborative relationship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Material Science/Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering
  • Experience in relevant aluminum metallurgical assignments of increasing complexity and magnitude.

Location Profile

Novelis’ Oswego facility is located on Lake Ontario in north-central New York and employs approximately 1100 people.
