Job Title: Director of Community Affairs

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Community Affairs Officer is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive and effective community affairs strategy to deepen understanding and support for Lane College’s mission. This role emphasizes collaborative engagement with College staff, as well as strategic outreach to raise awareness about programs and initiatives across the Jackson-Madison County area. Serving as a key representative of Lane College, the Community Affairs Officer works to foster and sustain relationships with community groups, businesses, external agencies, and stakeholders in areas of community relations and economic development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Direct and maintain the community affairs department to align efforts, strategies, resources, and priorities with the Lane College Strategic Plan.
- Partnership Development: Expand and manage cooperative partnerships with businesses, organizations, and other stakeholders to strengthen Lane College’s community presence.
- Community Outreach: Develop and execute impactful outreach programs designed to build support and awareness for Lane College’s mission, initiatives, and activities.
- Representation: Actively represent the College at community events, meetings, and public engagements to promote the institution and cultivate positive relationships.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with internal departments to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with Lane College’s strategic objectives.
- Program Evaluation: Monitor and assess the effectiveness of community relations programs, adapting strategies as necessary to achieve desired goals.
- Environmental Awareness: Stay informed about community issues, trends, and opportunities that may influence the College’s relationships and standing within the region.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in community relations, public affairs, or a similar role.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to foster and maintain relationships across diverse stakeholders.
- Strong strategic planning and implementation skills, with the ability to develop impactful initiatives.
- Outstanding organizational and project management abilities, with a focus on results-driven outcomes.
- Familiarity with the Jackson-Madison County area and its community and business landscape is highly preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software tools.
- Adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines in fast-paced environments.
Working Conditions:
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to attend community events and meetings as needed.
- Regular travel within the Jackson-Madison County area required.
