THE OFFICE OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

The Office of Undergraduate Studies (OUS), an established unit within the Office of the Provost, operates with goals to meet and exceed retention, persistence, graduation, and career outcomes noted in the strategic plan. OUS comprises three major units: The Academic Center for Excellence, Center for Career & Professional Success, and the Office of General Education. Collectively, OUS units provide transformative offerings through three major functions: academic excellence support, academic and career exploration, and career development.

THE ACADEMIC CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE

The Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) is a newly established unit that represents a merger of existing advising and support units within the Office of Undergraduate Studies. ACE will offer high-impact academic and career advising and support services to ensure that undergraduate students successfully persist and graduate, at minimum, in accordance with the goals set in the University’s strategic plan.

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Assistant Director is responsible for leading an advising sub-unit/cluster, with principled guidance from the Director of Advising Services. The primary function is maintaining a comprehensive advising program that maximizes retention, persistence, graduation rates, and post-graduate outcomes.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:                   

Supervises direct reports to include, but not limited to senior/specialized academic and career advisor, academic and career advisors, and student employees.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts may include senior administrators, faculty, students, and staff.  External contacts may include parents, caregivers, consultants, and the public. 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Work with OUS leadership, staff, and direct reports to achieve the goals and associated initiatives noted in the strategic plan.
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Advising and other Assistant Directors of Advising to develop and implement training programs for advisors, faculty, and other stakeholders to integrate academic advising, major exploration, and career education in service provision.
• Provide leadership, vision, and service to assigned academic advising sub-unit/cluster through strategic planning, management of direct reports, collaboration, and facilitation of a supportive work environment.
• Work closely with the enrollment management team and other campus partners advising leads to support retention, persistence, and graduation efforts. 
• Engage faculty, students, and stakeholders to deliver effective student success programming.
• Conduct performance reviews and other leadership functions that are associated with managing a student success unit.
• Integrate high impact student success practices into daily work activities.
• Co-construct, authorize, and facilitate professional development for staff.
