About the role

Description

      

Job Purpose 

 

This is a   highly influential role in product development, utilizing extensive   knowledge of firmware, signal processing, electronic   systems, design, development, and evaluation. You will help complete   development of the company’s first product by both developing new and   modifying existing Firmware to ensure all product requirements are met.   Additional opportunity available to define the direction of the company’s future   products through concept ideation, design, and use of rapid fabrication   techniques to create functional prototypes that will be used in clinical   trials and beyond. You will demonstrate your sound analytical skills in   evaluating designs, considering manufacturing feasibility, functional and   cost requirements, and design optimization trade-offs.  

 

Duties   and Responsibilities 

 

  •  Define, design, and test firmware   configured to control and interpret readings   from electrochemical biosensing system 
  •  Architect firmware designed to configure sensor   during manufacturing process 
  •  Develop specifications and test methods to   experimentally validate design choices and optimize system performance 
  •  Iterate and evaluate firmware revisions for   minimal power consumption to position capability for wearable   applications 
  •  Implement various statistical signal   processing routines designed to integrate parallel sensor inputs, data   archiving of sensor readings in embedded flash memory, hibernation   / deep-sleep modes for extended system lifetime 
  •  Working closely w/ application developer to   ensure seamless transmission of sensor data to connected mobile device 
  •  Working closely w/ electronics team   to design electronic systems for maximum performance and low   power operation 
  •  Statistical analysis   of system performance under relevant operating environment(s) 
  •  Defining specifications, generating   documentation, and iterating firmware revisions based upon   feedback from advisors, clinicians, and regulators

Requirements

 

  •  BS   or MS Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer   Science, or equivalent field, along with a MINIMUM of 5 years relevant   experience
  •  Aptitude   with firmware development in C/++ for microcontrollers (especially ARMTM   Cortex® platforms) 
  •  Solid   experience working with wireless data transmission protocols, particularly NFC   and BLE 
  •  Experience   developing firmware for use in regulated medical devices (i.e. 510(k), PMA)   is preferred 
  •  Familiarity   with quality systems, including design controls (21 CFR 820.30), ISO   specifications (13485), and software documentation protocols and life cycle   processes for medical devices (IEC 62304) is preferred 
  •  Ability   to interface with electrical, mechanical, software, and biomedical engineers   and work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment. Capacity to manage   multiple projects and communicate ideas clearly to the team 
  •  Willingness   to take the lead on architecting firmware and become the R&D group’s   resident expert on everything firmware
