PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

Responsible for reviewing all requests for customer credit and vendor prepayments and monitors the status of all receivables.  Follows up on past-due accounts, obtains additional credit support when needed, and makes recommendations on accounts deemed to be uncollectible. 

 

SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP

Supervises, leads, and develops Credit Staff.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsible for reviewing credit on all new customers and either approves credit or recommends credit limits for approval by the Assistant Treasurer and/or Treasurer.  Responsible for obtaining and reviewing financial statements, collection reports, or other sources of information on the customer.

 

Obtains additional credit support, such as letters of credit or guarantees on accounts that do not have the financial standing for open credit on their own.

 

Consults and communicates with legal counsel and, if necessary, collection firms in taking action to collect past due accounts.  Obtains security when necessary to minimize the exposure to loss.

 

Provides credit assistance to GMK Subsidiaries and Divisions regarding best credit practices, risk assessment, and credit reports.

 

Maintains a database of customer information for monitoring the annual financial condition of the accounts and the credit limit appropriate for the account.

 

Assists in counterparty credit risk assessment for over the counter transactions in fertilizer or energy.

 

Communicates with accounts to discuss credit requirements, determine expected payment plans, or develop workout programs.  Coordinates credit issues with product division and member services personnel.

 

Recommends to Treasurer and Controller accounts deemed uncollectible.

 

Assists Member Services with accounts receivable collections for liquidating member cooperatives.

 

Responds to customer credit reference requests.

 

Develops corporate credit card policies.  Assists GROWMARK employees on questions related to credit cards.

 

Reviews vendor credit for potential prepayments by GROWMARK.

 

Provides financial information on GROWMARK to suppliers to establish/maintain credit limits.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Follows GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply.

 

Responsible for encouraging, supporting, and promoting innovative practices, ideas, and technologies within the team.

 

Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Normally requires a college degree in accounting, finance, or business administration or equivalent and at least 3 years of related experience to demonstrate the ability to provide credit administration leadership to the GROWMARK System.

 

Prefer the following:

  • CPA, CTM, or other professional business designation,
  • MBA or other advanced business degree.
  • Knowledge of the GROWMARK System

 

Understanding and experience with credit-related areas including credit administration and decision-making, collections, financial statements, internal controls, risk management, policies and procedures, and compliance along with planning, program execution, budgeting, and communications.

 

Proven supervisory and leadership skills including staffing, coaching, performance evaluation, etc. and the ability to achieve results through others.

 

Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.

 

Proven computer skills including complex spreadsheets, database management skills, and various software applications, and the ability to use the computer to enhance business processes.

 

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. Must have the ability to travel independently and overnight as necessary.
