About the Team

DoorDash is looking for an experienced tax professional to serve as the Director of Global Tax Controversy. In this role you coordinate the Company's global strategy for resolving audits and disputes with taxing authorities. 

DoorDash continues to build a world-class global Tax Controversy Team. As DoorDash’s  business has blossomed throughout the United States and the world, so have its interactions with tax authorities.  Our Tax Controversy team serves DoorDash by developing constructive relationships with auditors with an eye toward producing principled outcomes. We provide guidance based on our experience to the tax team and business. 

About the Role

You will have director-level responsibility for managing the Company’s worldwide portfolio of tax controversies in line with the company’s tax goals in conjunction with regional leaders outside the US. You will set strategy and vision for all audit management, direct and indirect, for both the U.S. and foreign Tax Controversy teams You will develop and refine best practices, workflows, and procedures for managing and organizing all audits. You will ensure that the Tax Controversy function delivers timely information for financial forecasting and reserve consideration. You will create a virtuous loop by which Tax Controversy shares insights from audits with other functions to improve the entire Tax team. You will ensure that Tax Controversy has the resources and personnel to produce optimal controversy outcomes.

In this role you will develop a deep knowledge of the Company’s business, data sources, tax positions, and tax compliance history. You will be part of the leadership team navigating the Company’s tax risks. You will lead a team of experienced audit management processionals, and you will report to the VP of Tax.

  • Create industry leading practices, procedures, and technology that accurately reflect controversy risks in the Company’s financial statements.
  • Prepare the Company for a significant increase in direct tax audits.
  • Improve the results of the entire tax team with feedback from tax controversies.
  • Establish collaborative, mutually beneficial relationships with other Company leaders within Tax, Finance, Accounting, and Legal. 
  • You have a sense of humor (or at least a tolerance for a VP of Tax who is not as nearly as funny as he thinks he is)

We’re excited about you because . . .

  • You have 12+ years of tax experience in a corporate tax department, public accounting firm, law firm, or revenue agency, you have 7+ years of experience managing people. 
  • You have generated strategic business value through the successful management of tax audits. 
  • You have deep experience with direct tax audits, including U.S. federal income tax audits and transfer pricing issues.
  • You have a strong working knowledge of U.S. sales and use taxes, gross receipts taxes, marketplace facilitator laws, and VAT.
  • You excel at analyzing material tax issues and articulating your analysis orally and in writing.
  • You seek innovative technological solutions for making audit management more responsive, more efficient, and more enjoyable. 
  • You recognize your limitations, and you are not afraid to ask for help.
  • You have a strong moral compass and compassion for others.
  • You are a CPA or licensed attorney.
