Job Description:
The Engineering and Estimating Specialist combines technical engineering expertise with cost estimation skills to produce accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and analyze raw material costs for special trackwork products. This position requires reports to the Director of Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Analyze raw material costs and route times to provide accurate cost estimates for products.
- Collaborate with sales, manufacturing, and engineering teams to ensure accurate and timely completion of product estimates.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of material costs, market trends, and industry standards to ensure accurate estimates.
- Analyze vendor pricing and quality/performance to understand the impact production cost.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to create cost-effective solutions.
- Provide technical support and guidance to other departments as needed.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve estimating processes and enhance accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures in all estimating and engineering activities.
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of a 2-year trade school certificate in engineering, Associate Degree in Engineering preferred.
- Prefer experience with CAD programming (AutoCAD, SketchUp, etc.)
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel.
- Strong understanding of the impact of raw material costs and labor on product pricing.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Experience with ERP systems and software applications is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
