JOB DESCRIPTION:

This person provides group psychotherapy to patients on inpatient psychiatry units. Individual psychotherapy may be provided as well in some instances. Mental health clinicians in Inpatient Psychiatry will provide services designed to facilitate crisis stabilization. Empirically supported interventions which target acute distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and effective coping will be prioritized. Collaboration with nursing and other clinical staff will be important elements of the role. Clinicians will participate in unit Rounds and contribute to development of post-treatment aftercare plans. Timely and accurate documentation of each clinical encounter will be required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are critical to success in this role.

The Group Therapist mental health clinician is responsible for formulating group therapy plans of care and coordinating treatment for patients in the hospital. The clinician must be able to demonstrate professional flexibility and effectively coordinate high acuity patient care with multiple providers within and outside of our health network.

EDUCATION:

Applicant must have a Master’s degree in a counseling field.

Specific training and experience in Group Therapy is strongly preferred.

Training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma focused interventions and Substance Use Treatment are also desired.

Training in acute crisis intervention, suicide risk assessment and safety planning are necessary.

EXPERIENCE:

Preferred:

At least 3 years direct clinical experience post licensure in an acute or sub-acute mental health setting.

  • A minimum 3 years’ direct experience providing individual, family and group psychotherapy.
  • Experience with co-occurring disorders (including substance use disorder and medical complications) and multi-axial diagnostic presentations.
  • Familiarity with psychotropic medications and their role in treatment
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team

Additional clinical certifications and skills in specific clinical specialties are welcomed.

LICENSURE:

Applicant must hold current State of Vermont, Clinical Mental Health Counselor License. A valid LCMHC license is required to apply for this position.

More recently licensed providers will be considered if training and recommendations suggest that the clinician will be highly effective in this position.
