About the Travel Design Team:

The travel design team is at the forefront of enriching customers’ digital and physical experiences within all parts of the Capital One Travel business - Travel Bookings, Luxury travel experiences, airport experiences, and emerging verticals. Travel design is a full stack design team including, strategists, product designers (UX and UI), content and research SMEs. In our day to day we partner closely with all aspects of the business and experience including: product, tech, insights, marketing, legal, risk, compliance, brand, creative, and accessibility teams.

We work and create experiences with a “start up” mentality in a self driven, and highly motivated space. Guided by our shared values we thrive on collaboration and perspective driven design leadership. In a given week you may be working on broader level customer journeys and participating in workshops, managing the experience quality of our core booking experiences, and preparing high fidelity designs for delivery and or our executive vision share outs. 

We are looking for a Director, Product Designer, to help build the future of Capital One Travel with our travel partners such as Hopper, a leading booking fintech company. This Director Product Designer role will both support developing a world-class experience design strategy for our customers and design cutting edge travel solutions.

 

What You’ll Do: 

As a maker and a leader of craft, you will be driving experience innovation and quality across our large portfolio contributing to both the maturity of our design practice and crafting experiences:


Craft Leadership: 

  • Implement and manage the quality standards across our design and delivery partners in Travel both internal and external including heuristics, best practices in mobile and web design and accessibility, and integrating emerging technology into experiential and product design

  • Define the visual language and ethos of travel alongside the application of our design principles, systems, and frameworks 

  • Run design reviews and critiques providing both structure and design feedback to enhance the quality of our end experiences 

  • Map the maturity curve of design quality and translate them into implementable recommendations and roadmaps for the rest of the design team 

  • Mentor other designers on the team through the lens of craft improving the quality of our experiences through time 

  • Collaborating with technology, product, marketing,  and business teams to uncover customer and business needs — then translating them into intuitive and engaging digital experiences

  • Managing through shifting priorities to provide clear direction and input on product prioritization and support early product definition 

  • Advocating for the customer through human-centered design methods, including: discovery, research sketch sessions, and user testing

  • Championing prioritization of design centered product enhancements grounded in research and analysis 


 

Discovery & Delivery

  • Supporting early product definition by working with partners to facilitate discovery sessions that uncover customer pain points and opportunities 

  • Demonstrating high expertise with industry design tools across the design process including concepting, wireframing, prototyping, rigging, and UI design (i.e. Figma and other tools) 

  • Driving end-to-end product design by:

    • Working with researchers to understand customer needs and define opportunities  through usability and empathy studies 

    • Designing within existing — and creating new — standards to contribute to our internal design system, best practices, and guidelines

    • Storytelling and presenting visual concepts to various stakeholders

    • Creating high fidelity design assets for acceptance, development, and delivery to market in partnership with technology, compliance, and product part
