The Team & Department
While Abacus Medicine already has an established trading organization in Spain, this role will focus on building and scaling our dedicated pharmaceutical division, creating a strong bridge between existing commercial capabilities and future pharmaceutical growth.
You will join Commercial Operations - Abacus Medicine Pharmaceuticals, part of Abacus Medicine Group, and report directly to the VP, Head of Commercialization at our HQ.
The Spanish pharmaceutical affiliate will be built in phases. In the initial phase, the team is expected to consist of:
4–6 Key Account Managers
1 Medical Advisor
Additional roles (e.g. Pricing & Reimbursement, Product Management) will be added as the business develops. The team is characterized by an entrepreneurial mindset, strong cross-border collaboration, and close alignment with regional and global leadership. Success in this role requires the ability to operate confidently in an international, matrix-driven organization and actively contribute to a shared global culture.
The Position
As Country Manager, Pharmaceuticals - Spain, you will establish and lead the Spanish pharmaceutical affiliate with full P&L responsibility. You will drive the commercial success of the cardioplegia portfolio and future pharmaceutical launches in Spain.
In the early phase, the role is highly hands-on, combining strategic leadership with direct customer engagement and active field leadership. As the affiliate matures, the role will evolve toward a more strategic management position.
You will report to HQ leadership and play a key role in translating global strategy into strong local execution.
Your main responsibilities include:
Building, leading, and scaling a high-performing Spanish pharmaceutical organization
Defining and executing the commercial strategy for Spain in close alignment with HQ and global objectives
Driving market penetration, demand generation, and long-term sustainable growth
Leading local product launches with strong cross-functional coordination
Holding full P&L responsibility, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management
Acting as a visible leader in the field, coaching and developing Key Account Managers
Contributing directly to key customer relationships and negotiations in the early phase
Ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and ethical standards
Collaborating closely with global, regional, and central pharmaceutical functions.
Your Profile
You are an ambitious and commercially driven pharmaceutical leader who thrives in an international environment and enjoys building organizations from the ground up.
We expect you to bring:
A bachelor’s degree in business, Life Sciences, or a related field
Extensive experience within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry
Proven P&L responsibility and strong commercial leadership experience
A successful track record in building or scaling pharmaceutical operations and launching products
Solid knowledge of the Spanish pharmaceutical market
Fluency in Spanish and English, written and spoken
Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting and forecasting
The ability to navigate and succeed in an international, matrix-based organization
An entrepreneurial, energetic, and execution-focused leadership style
Experience with pricing, reimbursement, market access, or an MBA is considered an advantage.
