Regional Laboratory Manager

Summary Description: The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the clinical/technical leadership and supervision of the laboratory. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager and under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director.

Qualifications:

• Degree from an accredited Bachelor of Science degree program.
• Florida licensure as Laboratory Supervisor in the core areas of Hematology, Chemistry and Serology
• ASCP, NCA, or AMT affiliation.
• Two years supervisory experience, with two years of experience with responsibility for Chemistry or Hematology.
• Experience with knowledge of Physician Office Laboratory, State and CLIA regulations, Quality control, proficiency testing, and state inspections.

Position Responsibilities/Standards:

• Reports to the Laboratory Services Manager, works closely with the LIS Administrator, and Medical Director to monitor, support, and ensure all clinical and operational goals and objectives are being met.
• Maintains open communications regarding all clinical concerns with the Medical Director to ensure that all laboratory processes provide the best possible outcomes.
• Collaborates with the Medical Director on developing and maintaining quality control initiatives, compliance and improvement, licensure and legal reporting.
• Prepares and verifies all clinical licensure and technical reporting documentation necessary for state inspections in conjunction with the Medical Director.
• Works with Medical Director to maintain documentation of Quality Control, Proficiency Testing and Competency Protocols that meet regulatory requirements, including corrective action reports in a formalized manner
• Collaborate with the Laboratory Services Manager on areas of personnel management, training and competencies, ongoing performance, and annual performance evaluations for clinical laboratory personnel.
• Ensures all aspects of laboratory testing systems, protocols, and test results provide quality results/information that reflect the best standards of practice.
• Ensures verification, validation and correlation procedures are adequate to determine the accuracy, precision, analytical and normal ranges, and other pertinent characteristics of the method.
• Responsible all proficiency testing events performed, by appropriate laboratory staff, to evaluate the laboratory's performance and to identify any problems requiring corrective action.
• Develop corrective plans and document actions taken when significant deviation from normal performance levels occurs.
• Implements and maintains a quality control programs to ensure the quality of laboratory services
• Assesses competency at hiring, maintains annual competency documentation that all clinical laboratory personnel can perform all testing operations reliably, accurately and according to protocols as documented in laboratory procedure manuals.
• Develops and maintains written policies and procedures defining clinical processes for conducting all phases of testing including policies that define activities outside of standard testing procedures (i.e. corrective actions, modified patient reports, and training staff when new tests/methods are implemented).
• Identify, in writing, those examinations and procedures each individual is authorized to perform, including supervision required for specimen process, test performance or reporting of results, and whether supervisor or manager review is required prior to reporting patient test results.
• Coordinates with the Laboratory Services Manager to select and maintain the laboratory test menu and methods, schedule of testing, criteria for specimen collecting and rejection, methods for reporting results, and to continuously improve processes, procedures and optimization of test menus.
• Evaluates laboratory clinical processing staffing levels, activities, and ensures adequate personnel for functional laboratory operation. Develops contingency plans to provide uninterrupted coverage in the event of unexpected staffing changes.
• Collaborates with Laboratory Manager, and MPG purchasing, to maintain optimum equipment contracts, obtain new equipment and negotiate best pricing for all.
• Reviews/establishes protocols, policies and clinical workflows to assure clinical compliance.
• Collaborates with other departments within organization as needed.
