Sr Principal Sci, R&D - Nutrition

Job Description

The Senior Principal Scientist in Nutrition will elevate the use of nutrition within and for the benefit of Kraft Heinz by autonomously leading and designing nutrition science platforms and provide strategic scientific thought leadership for current brands and future innovations.   

Responsibilities

• Design, lead and execute nutrition science platforms:
  • Influence, design and execute nutrition studies to deliver compelling product claims for the consumer to drive growth of brands through nutrition subject matter expertise
  • Drive functional ingredient strategy for brands
  • Embrace an agile organization mindset
• Identify and drive the assessment of business implications of emerging science and horizon scanning of ingredients and nutrition to:
  • Develop science based positions and provide scientific guidance to stakeholders
  • Identify research opportunities
  • Influence external scientific opinions
  • Lead scientific issues management

• Transfer nutrition knowledge through coaching and training of early career scientists

Relationships (External and Internal):

• Collaboration with internal cross functional teams, including R&D, Marketing, Regulatory, Legal, Government Affairs, Communications and Global Nutrition
• Established partnerships with academia and industry trade groups

Qualifications

• Minimum Masters degree in Nutrition or Life Sciences (PhD preferred)
• Registered Dietitian a plus
• 8+ years experience in the food industry
• Solid proficiency with nutrition claims substantiation and demonstrated application to products (food or supplements)
• Knowledge of North American food regulations (US and Canada) and nutrition policy
• Trade association experience is required
• Experience working with cross functional teams such as R&D, Marketing, and Legal
• Strong written and oral communication skills for technical and non technical audiences
• Excellent problem solving, influencing, organization and time management skills
• Travel for external meetings and conferences as indicated
