Purpose/Introduction

This position is responsible for managing all Mechanical and Instrument Maintenance activities for three Polyethylene Units and Materials Handling within Cedar Bayou.  The Superintendent will report to the Maintenance Manager and supervises a combination of Maintenance Craft and Area Supervisors.  This position is also responsible for the coordinated activity of Area Supervisors, Maintenance Specialist and Supervisors for Hourly and a large, nested contractor work force to support plant needs. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that established safety goals are attained – keep safety focus and initiatives high in priority
  • Seek opportunities to encourage/enforce Operational Discipline, human performance principles and maximize moments of high influence
  • Set a high standard for housekeeping in Maintenance and responsible areas
  • Communicate Maintenance priorities and efforts to peers, site Leadership Team and Manufacturing Leaders
  • Ensure compliance with Operations and Maintenance Work Process (OMWP), with maintenance activities focused on planned work and quality repairs executed in an integrated schedule that improves plant reliability
  • Develop objectives and metrics, including personal development goals, with direct reports that support department priorities and OMWP improvements

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Effectively interface with Operations, ERG, Projects, Procurement, and EHS&S leadership
  • Utilize SAP systems to improve reliability, cost tracking, planning, and scheduling
  • Support budget development and implement actions to meet budget targets
  • Provide discipline around project creation, approval, and closure
  • Support the development and implementation of the site’s strategy for 3rd party contractor companies to meet plant and departmental goals
  • Facilitate continuous improvements, in conjunction with Performance by Design strategy
  • Initiate, lead and participate on cross functional teams to accomplish the above objectives
  • Lead or support incident investigation for complex or high consequence events, with timely completion of investigations and learnings

Required Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree with at least 10 years of experience or a High School diploma/GED with at least 15 years of related mechanical maintenance or turnaround experience in the petrochemical or refining industry
  • Strong skills in conflict resolution and change management
  • Results-oriented to drive improvement and work efficiency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to all levels of an organization
  • Ability to coordinate multi-disciplined teams
  • Working knowledge of SAP and Primavera or similar scheduling/planning software experience to improve reliability, cost tracking, planning, and scheduling
  • MS Office Experience and PowerBI

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in contractor management
  • Previous MLL / Superintendent experience
  • Budgetary experience
  • Knowledge of the Olefins process
