This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: The Hills, set outside of East Quogue, New York.

The Hills is seeking a Director of Security to join the Community Safety & Security Department. This is a full-time year-round role.

The Director of Community Safety and Security is responsible for the integration of Security, Medical and Fire operations into the club operation to provide a world class experience for members, guests and employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all members of the Community Safety and Security team (CSST) provide world class service to all members, guests and employees.
  • Ensure team members have a thorough knowledge of all club amenities and services to assist members and support club operations.
  • Responsible for drafting the Club’s Master Community Safety Plan for operations, policies and procedures regarding the Club’s safety and security program.
  • Develop and maintain current governance and policy to ensure the safe and private operation of the Club, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and industry best practices.
  • Identify community safety threats, hazards, risks, and vulnerabilities and develop mitigating strategies.
  • Develop policies and procedures to deter, prevent, detect and respond to unauthorized access to the Club that could disrupt normal operations or lead to unlawful, destructive and undesirable activity.
  • Proactively address loss prevention and theft from Club premises by developing an effective and cost-efficient plan for the Security team, in conjunction with departmental leaders from across club operations, during both development and operational phases of the club.   
  • Assist and coordinate with Corporate staff in researching and making recommendations regarding security technologies, systems, uniforms, equipment, devices, including vehicle and person access control, perimeter security and effective CCTV coverage, design of an Operations Center and a key management crisis response plan to ensure design plans are in compliance with local regulations and meet Corporate guidelines for safety, security and member experience.
  • Assist club leadership in preparing any request for proposals regarding Community Safety and Security resources or services.
  • Create budgets to support effective CSST Operations throughout various phases of the Club’s development.
  • Provide hands-on, daily operational management.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, such as departmental leadership, to ensure a collaborative approach to safety and security initiatives.
  • Recruit, hire and train personnel as needed to maintain effective staffing levels during day-to-day operations and during peak times.
  • Coordinate the executive protection of VIP members and guests, ensuring their comfort, safety and privacy. 
  • Implement a security program that will ensure the highest levels of confidentiality.   
  • Oversee risk management and occupational health and safety to mitigate any risk associated with The Club activities during construction and transition to residential occupancy and special events.
  • Provide command, control and coordination of any critical incident that occurs on property and ensure key Club and Corporate management are notified and updated.  Work alongside local emergency services agencies, ensuring executive leadership and corporate leadership are informed of their involvement when working within the confines of the Club property. 
  • Develop, implement and train staff to address life safety issues to include natural hazards and fire prevention.
  • Develop and implement an initial and sustainment training program to ensure readiness of CSST personnel at all times. 
  • Conduct no notice drills to test the effectiveness of Community Safety Team members as well as all Club Operations.
