The Associate VP, Quality Engineering carries out procedures to ensure that all information systems products and services meet organization standards and end-user requirements. The Associate VP, Quality Engineering requires a in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across segments and/or enterprise-wide.

Humana is committed to helping people achieve their best health by delivering innovative technology solutions that enable exceptional member and provider experiences.

The Associate Vice President, Quality Engineering – Insurance Segment will join a high-performing, highly innovative technology organization with a strong culture of quality excellence. This leader will build and lead quality engineering across Humana’s enterprise-scale insurance technology platforms, ensuring end-to-end delivery quality, release confidence, and continuous modernization of quality practices.

This role is accountable for driving consistent quality engineering execution across multiple product/application teams, partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Platform, and DevOps leaders to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy, Leadership & Operating Model

  • Define and execute the quality engineering strategy for Humana’s enterprise-scale insurance technology platforms, aligned to business priorities and enterprise direction.

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing organization of quality engineering leaders, engineers, and SDETs across multiple teams.

  • Promote a culture of shared quality ownership and “built-in quality” within agile delivery teams.

  • Drive a scalable delivery model for quality engineering, including clear standards for execution, reusable assets, and consistent ways of working across teams.

Delivery Quality, Validation & Release Readiness

  • Own end-to-end delivery quality outcomes across the insurance technology portfolio.

  • Ensure quality planning and execution across functional, integration, end-to-end, and regression validation.

  • Lead defect management practices including triage, root cause analysis, and prevention strategies to reduce escaped defects.

  • Provide release readiness assessments and technical release validation in partnership with Engineering and DevOps.

  • Coordinate production quality support, including incident quality analysis and post-release learning.

AI & Automation-First Quality Engineering & CI/CD

  • Drive AI- and automation-first quality engineering practices to improve speed, coverage, and confidence across the delivery lifecycle.

  • Establish and maintain segment-level automated regression capabilities, ensuring test suite reliability, maintainability, and business value.

  • Integrate quality signals into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., automated validations, quality gates, and actionable reporting) to support frequent, stable releases.

  • Leverage standards, patterns, and reusable assets established by the core Platform Quality Engineering team to promote consistency and scalability.

  • Partner with engineering teams to modernize test frameworks and automation approaches for distributed and cloud-native systems.

Non-Functional Testing & Security Validation

  • Coordinate non-functional testing strategies and execution (performance, reliability/resiliency, and operational readiness) across the portfolio.

  • Ensure security validation execution is aligned to enterprise standards and SDLC controls.

  • Promote risk-based testing approaches to balance speed, quality, and compliance expectations.

Stakeholder Partnership & Influence

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Platform, and DevOps leaders to embed quality throughout the delivery lifecycle.

  • Influence engineering practices that improve reliability, scalability, and member/provider experience.

  • Align portfolio priorities with enterprise quality engineering direction, contributing to shared roadmaps and capability advancement.

Metrics, Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Adhere to quality metrics, reporting, and governance processes established by the quality enablement team.

  • Partner with the enablement team to refine and evolve portfolio-relevant measures, insights, and governance routines.

  • Use quality insights to identify systemic improvement opportunities and drive maturity progress across teams.
