About the role

Job Overview 

The Assistant Postmaster is responsible to provide prompt, courteous customer service, hire and train student workers, and coordinate webpage design and updates.  Manages the technologies used in package delivery and faculty-staff-student address updating.  The Assistant Postmaster reports to the College Post Office (CPO) Postmaster. The position pays $20-$22/hr.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for departmental mail and metering as needed.
  • Assist in supervising student workers to receive, shelve and deliver packages via Q-Trak tracking software; communicate with Q-Trak when problems arise, and assist in the implementation and utilization of electronic equipment required by the Q-Trak system.
  • Assisist in interview, hire, and training of student workers on CPO functions including CPO window protocols.
  • In charge of campus route deliveries and training student workers for this purpose.
  • Sort Letter mail and assist in maintaining departmental labeling and sorting.
  • Manage the student address forwarding system, both manual and automated, keeping information updated and accurate throughout the year. 
  • Assist the Postmaster with directory list management to ensure easy access to faculty-staff-department information. 
  • Maintain the closing and opening of student boxes and assignment of combinations and assign CPO boxes to current students. 
  • Assist in maintaining the CPO website. 
  • Coordinate daily mail pick-up in the morning, and daily mail drop-off in the afternoon, at the Wheaton Post Office.

Qualifications: 

  • College degree preferred. 
  • 2 years related work experience preferred. 
  • Effective oral and written skills required. 
  • Organized and able to manage work through student workers. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. 
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a van.
  • Computer and technical skills required. 

 

Physical requirements 

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear; frequently required to stand, move around the office or campus, handle or feel; required to lift and shelve up to 40 pound packages.
