Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Assistant Construction Manager to be based on our project site in the Northern Virginia area. The Assistant Construction Manager will be responsible for the effective administration of the construction contract and will interact closely with the Construction Manager (CM).

This position will support our Water Treatment team within our Water business line. This position is expected to begin immediately.  The Assistant Construction Manager will be responsible for performing the following tasks including directing the field inspection staff in the assignment of their duties, reviewing and compiling, and reviewing inspector’s Daily Inspection Reports.

The selected individual provides overall management administration to project and assists in establishing project specific objectives and policies. They will also provide technical direction and guidance to subordinate managers, enforces company and project policies, maintains close client interface, and ensures all facets of the project are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule through subordinate managers and supervisors. The Position has significant profit/loss responsibility for assigned construction project.

The job responsibilities for the position will include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate Special Inspections with the Design Builder and the Special Inspections firm.
  • Confirm that Inspection staff is performing tasks in accordance with project quality criteria and guidelines, contract documents, contract change orders and AECOM’s policies and procedures and permit requirements.
  • Maintain a Log of the Contractor’s Non-Conformances.
  • Participate in weekly Construction Progress Meetings.
  • Prepare minutes for Construction Progress Meetings and any other special meetings required.
  • Assure that the T&M records are kept as required.
  • Identify and inform the CM of issues affecting the progress of the work and recommend solutions.
  • Prepare communications to Owner and the Design Builder.
  • Assist and act for the CM as required.
  • Participate in the preparation of reports to Owner and AECOM management as needed.
  • Monitor Construction Management PMIS data files to check that data entry is current and accurate.
  • Review and check of Design Builder’s Payment Applications. Assure that all required documentation is accurate and complete. Monitor required T&M sheets are maintained for extra work and allowances.
  • Track the Contractor’s Certifications of Materials, Designs and Tests to assure that the requirements of the Contract Specifications are met.
  • Maintain documentation for Contract Closeout including all requirements for Substantial and Final Completion.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid US Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Civil, Construction Engineering or related degree
  • 5+ years experience in water/wastewater or heavy civil infrastructure construction projects.
  • Ability to earn a PE license or CCM certification
  • MS Office Suite including MS Word & Excel
  • Experience using PMIS applications
  • Experience with BlueBeam and AutoCAD
  • Proficient with data analysis, modeling, and visualization database systems, and numeric computing environments
  • OSHA 40-hr Hazardous Waste Operations Training
  • Familiarity with State and Federal Environmental Regulations
