Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage projects of various sizes and budgets through planning, design, procurement and construction.
- Design small remediation projects in-house, as well as manage and coordinate various third-party consultants to facilitate remediation projects of all sizes.
- Review designs, drawings, plans, and specifications of complex projects prepared by professional licensed contract architects for compliance with federal, state, and university standards, codes, and regulations.
- Provide technical expertise and oversight during all phases of Projects. Includes preparing and/or reviewing cost and quantity estimates for projects.
- Ensure projects comply with UH’s Design Guide, identify value-engineering ideas, actively observe construction and commissioning activities, visit construction sites and write observation reports, and confirm delivery of turnover-to-operation deliverables
- For small remediation projects, work with in-house trades to design and oversee the work.
- Provide technical assistance, recommendations, and architectural solutions to campus planning, operation, maintenance, and other department units. Troubleshoot and recommend solutions to resolve major operational and maintenance problems.
- Coordinate with shop personnel and other internal departments for building renewal projects and assessments, corrective engineering, preventative and deferred maintenance.
- Work with Facilities in-house trade shops and UH’s Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) in efforts to make the Campus a safe work environment.
- Work and communicate with various departments to identify building issues and its resolution/remediation. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Participate in facilities operations planning and emergency response efforts.
- Contribute to the development and update of UH’s Design Guide which provides guidance to project teams to implement design consistency, maintainability, future flexibility and lowest life cycle costs of new building construction and renovations
- Perform on site assessments in operational, construction, or field environments in locations that are elevated, confined, cramped, hot, dirty, or otherwise physically demanding, adhering to all applicable safety, health, and operational requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Architecture or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for professional architectural work involving the application of professional architectural principles and practices; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
