The role of the AQV Analyst is to support the analytical activities of Analytic Quality & Validation (AQV), a control function for S&P Global Ratings. The position supports the development of tools and analyses that enhance AQV’s ability to evaluate the quality of S&P’s ratings analysis and assists in the research of the quality of our criteria, models, and their application to assign ratings. In particular, the Analyst will participate in risk-based activities, as assigned, and is expected to be an active contributor to the team’s development and maintenance of its Analytic Platforms/visualizations.
The role is within a multi-cultural, global team that works closely together, and requires excellent multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to analyze and solve problems in a timely and insightful manner. It will suit a diligent and analytically curious self-starter with a strong work ethic and a drive to succeed.
Responsibilities & Impact
Credit Risk Analysis
- Analyzes structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources and synthesizes the results to identify key credit trends and sector risks at the direction of senior analytical leaders.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the drivers of credit risk, has a working knowledge of S&P ratings criteria and supports market trends research including the generation and preparation of rating performance metrics using various AQV tools.
- Contributes to the evaluation of credit analyses using S&P rating methodology and standards, financial models, financial data, and financial statement analysis. Helps evaluate whether criteria and models are consistently applied.
- Coordinates with global offices to ensure data analyses and reports are available to all relevant stakeholders and is treated in a consistent manner.
- Assist with planning, organizing, executing, and documenting all activities. Conducts ad-hoc research as needed.
Analytical Platforms
- Applies knowledge of Excel or of programming languages, such as Python or R, to contribute to the development of analytical tools that facilitate analyses, visualizations, or improve operations.
Qualifications
- BA or BS in a business or financial engineering field or and possibly pursuing advanced or business degree.
- 1-3 years in financial services. Good knowledge of financial markets, the business environment, and financial data.
- Proficiency with Excel, SQL, and Python required. Proficiency with VBA, and R desired.
- Experience in data mining, data warehousing, and data mapping.
- Knowledge of automation techniques.
- Include for roles that are bonus plan eligible, including sales commission plans.
Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)
- S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $58,300 to $115,850. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.
- In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
