What you'll do...

Position: Staff Software Engineer

Job Location: 680 W. California Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94086

Duties: Design and develop various components of Wal-Mart's personalization recommendation and selection engine using Java, Spring, Cassandra, Kafka, NoSQL, GCP, Kubernetes, Hive, HDFS, Apache Spark, and Map-Reduce. Use advanced machine learning and AI based algorithms and tools to build personalization models to drive business goals. Design and implement algorithms that enables monetization within customer’s repurchase journey using Java and Spring framework. Write algorithms to nudge members into buying experience using the customer preferences data model built on Java. Collaborate with multiple teams within the customer experience organization and lead the requirements gathering, design, development, documentation, testing, and maintenance activities. Build highly scalable, fault tolerant, low latency web services (REST APIs) for optimal operational performance. Deploy software services in public cloud Kubernetes cluster and private cloud clusters. Troubleshoot and debug customer-facing applications and triage technical issues pertaining to data modeling, caching, serving, and storage. Create and maintain data pipelines to sync data from persistence layer to caching layer using Apache Spark. Evaluate engineering best practices and write high quality code and unit tests with high code coverage. Collaborate with the security team to conduct security and privacy reviews for customer-facing APIs. Plan and deliver tasks following agile/scrum methodologies.

Minimum education and experience required: Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years of experience in software engineering or related area; OR Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 4 years of experience in software engineering or related area.

Skills required: Experience coding in object-oriented programming language Java. Experience with software design and software testing with JUnit, Mockito, TestNG, and Spock framework. Demonstrated knowledge of algorithms and data structure. Experience with NoSQL database modeling. Experience with one of the following Kafka based streaming or messaging services: Apache Spark, Hive, or HDFS. Experience building highly scalable, low latency webservices using Java servlets and JAX-RS specifications. Experience with Agile software development. Experience troubleshooting, debugging, and triaging issues. Experience deploying to Kubernetes, Docker, and Private clouds. Experience designing large scale application using popular design patterns. Employer will accept any amount of experience with the required skills.

Salary Range: $143,000/year to $286,000/year. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
