Summary: The General Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing the accounting activities related to live production operations. This role ensures accurate recording of live costs, inventories, and grower payments, while maintaining compliance with company policies. The General Accountant provides financial reporting and analysis to support operational and financial decision-making while ensuring timely, accurate results.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Balance sheet management of assigned asset and liability accounts.  Ensure monthly reconciliation of assigned accounts.
• Analyze weekly large variances and be able to discuss them with management
• Provide analytical research on Agri Stats comparisons and provide operating data to said firm monthly.
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure correct inventory valuation.  Identify LCM opportunities as needed.
• Monitor and report correct expenses across all levels of the organization into order deliver an accurate final monthly income statement.
• Supervise and coordinate daily accounting functions for live operations, including grower settlements, live inventory, feed, medication, and supply costs.
• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals related to live production.
• Monitor live bird inventories and flock data to ensure accuracy of production cost reports.
• Prepare and analyze monthly live cost reports, identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
• Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process for live operations cost centers.
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and GAAP standards.
• Collaborate with operations and live management teams to provide cost analysis and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Assist with preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
• Participate in internal and external audits as needed.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business related major (from four-year College or university); and/or 2-5 years experience in accounting or finance with budgeting experience preferred. 

 

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Bi-lingual in Spanish is not required, but a plus.

                              

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability                                            

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
