Feed Team Herdsman - Part Time

Trans Ova Genetics is seeking a part time Feed Team Herdsman to join our team in Sioux Center, IA. In this role, you would play a critical role in supporting the daily operations of on-farm cattle care. This position ensures that all cattle receive proper nutrition, live in clean and well-maintained environments, and are handled in a safe, low-stress manner. Regular responsibilities include operating and maintaining farm equipment, performing general facility upkeep, and assisting with cattle movement when needed.
This role contributes directly to the health and well-being of high-value donor and recipient cattle, which are essential to Trans Ova’s mission of advancing livestock genetics. The ideal candidate takes pride in routine farm work, demonstrates attention to detail, and works efficiently both independently and as part of a team. This candidate would carry experience with equipment such as tractors or skid loaders with prior cattle handling experience preferred.
This part time role would offer 15-20 hours per week that would be flexible from Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Figures load sizes and feeds cattle daily.
- Operates heavy machinery safely and responsibly, including but not limited to: feed trucks and wagons, tractors, mixers, and loaders.
- Unloads feed commodities.
- Assists with yard maintenance including, but not limited to: fencing, manure hauling, box scraping, bedding and snow removal.
- Assists Recipient Team with cattle sorting and processing as needed.
- Weekend and Holiday rotation as needed.
- Maintains a professional image reflective of Trans Ova’s industry position.
- Follows Trans Ova’s policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education Requirements:
- Minimum high school diploma or G.E.D.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to operate farm equipment.
- Working conditions are primarily an outdoor environment with extreme temperatures.
Other skills/experience:
- Previous farm/heavy equipment experience required.
- Ability to work with numbers.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
