Description
Student Assistants will hold a dual position by assisting visitors at the front desk and working in close cooperation with professional academic advising staff to provide a high level of service to students in pre-major status at UWB. At the front desk, Student Assistants will be the welcoming face of the UWB Advising Center. They will assist in scheduling advisor appointments and triaging questions. Student Assistants will also serve students by providing one on one advising both in person and on zoom during drop in hours. By honing and developing their personal and professional skills, Peer Advisors simultaneously foster student development while gaining valuable leadership experience.
Pay: Starting at $21.57/hr.
Time Commitments: Please review carefully, these are required for employment:
2024-2025 Academic Year (Fall 2024, Winter 2025, Spring 2025): Able to work approximately 10 hours per week (max 19.5 hours per week between 9am-4pm Monday through Friday during the school year and school breaks (flexible with class schedule). Student assistants maintain front desk and peer advising operations during our open hours Monday through Friday from 9-4pm.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Help create a positive and welcoming environment by being friendly and approachable.

Greet visitors to the UW Bothell Advising Center and identify ways in which they can be assisted.

Aid walk-up students with general questions advising, directing them to advising resources, and using Navigate, to process those with scheduled appointments with an advisor.

Provide office support for UW Bothell Academic Advising staff by Assisting with departmental and service group projects.

Attend and participate in any UWB Academic Advising training or meetings.

Serve as a positive role model and resource/referral agent for new students.

Staff the pre-major advising drop in desk and online zoom room to assist students with quick advising questions.

Help students navigate and gain awareness of the UW Bothell’s registration processes and policies, general degree requirements, areas of knowledge, and meta-majors.

Guide students in accessing the many academic and co-curricular resources available at UW Bothell such as MyPlan, the Writing and Communication Center, and the Academic Success Coaches.

Provide appropriate referrals to departmental advisors and campus offices such as Financial Aid, Career Services, and Counseling Services.

Support students with course scheduling and suggesting meaningful alternatives when first choice courses are not available.

Learn, understand, and interpret Federal, State, and University rules and regulations.

Have completed 45 credits and be in good academic standing and completed 3 quarters at UW Bothell by the end of Spring 2024 quarter.
