ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The Medical Insurance Collector/ Accounts Receivable Specialist – is responsible for managing and resolving aged accounts receivable in a healthcare setting. This role involves analyzing aging reports, following up on unpaid claims, and ensuring timely collections from insurance companies and patients. The specialist plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of the organization by reducing outstanding balances and improving cash flow.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

· Review and analyze aging reports to identify and prioritize overdue accounts. Aging A-R Reports provide by quarters and the priority (about to reach 120) Categorize A/R by age (e.g., 0-30 days, 31-60 days, 61-90 days, etc.).

· Follow up with insurance companies and patients on outstanding claims and balances.

· Resolve billing discrepancies and denials by coordinating with insurance providers and internal departments.

· Prepare and submit corrected claims or appeals as necessary.

· Document all collection activities and communications in the billing system. Maintain accurate records of all collection activities and communications.

· Collaborate with the billing team to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

· Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, including HIPAA.

· Generate reports on collection activities and outcomes for management review.

· Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate billing and collections
