About the role

The Plant IT organization is responsible for technical support to the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) during Construction, Startup, and Commissioning and Operations. Plant IT activities include configuration management of Information Systems, support to Plant Management and Plant Engineering, and preservation of the project’s Authorization to Operate under the Department of Energy (DOE) order 205.1B.

This Plant IT Deskside Support position performs moderately complex assignments that require initiative and free judgment in the selection and use of established principles and procedures. Supports a range of activities for users and equipment at the WTP DFLAW using applicable methods, procedures, tools, equipment and standards effectively while reporting up to management. Responds to customers’ needs, questions and concerns in an accurate, effective and timely manner and expedites corrective actions. Performs specific tasks while utilizing established information technology standards and methods. Works with clients to define timeframe requirements
 

This position is responsible for management of and support of equipment and services. A candidate should have experience with delivery and support of computing equipment and software including operating systems (OS).  The ideal candidate should have a thorough knowledge of computer peripherals and hardware components.

 Principal Accountabilities:

  • Undertake tasks as assigned

  • Know, understand, and apply the principles of the Nuclear Safety and Quality Culture

  • Know, understand, and apply the principles of the Integrated Safety Management System

  • Coordinate and control assigned aspects of the Plant IT program to meet agreed to departmental objectives.

  • Ensure the safe and effective introduction of process improvement and technologies.

  • Apply due diligence in resolving Plant IT end users’ issues.

  • Must be able to tangibly move computers and associated hardware.

The position will execute Plant IT activities ensuring optimum deliverables are achieved safely with quality and productivity that supports the expectations and integrity of Plant IT. This position is located onsite.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Undertake tasks as assigned

  • Installs Windows workstation hardware and software, including upgrades

  • Performs workstation imaging

  • Exhibits strong problem-solving skills

  • Understands infrastructure, configurations and relative standards

  •  Fields customer question and service requests via call, voicemail, email, service tickets and walk-ins

  • Resolves end user IT issues or dispatch to appropriate IT specialists

  • Provides end user support for WTP DFLAW facilities

  • Performs regular maintenance on personal computers and printers

  • Documents work and logs activity in ticketing system for resolution of issues

  • Must be able to physically move computers and related hardware

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science or Information Technology.

OR                                      

Associates degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science or Information Technology degree with two (2) years of progressive, related experience.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and 4 years progressive, related experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
