Job Description:
The Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University is currently seeking candidates for an Administrative Assistant II position. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate is to manage the operational needs of the department. This position will provide administrative support to the department chair, and provide overall assistance to the faculty, staff, and students with departmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilities include serving as the departmental liaison for several entities on campus such as FP&M, ITS, Graduate College, etc. Additional responsibilities include monitoring CALS and University deadlines for awards, travel, P&T, scholarships, etc. The Administrative Assistant will oversee and manage graduate student applications and be responsible for the graduate student appointment process. The successful candidate will also be responsible for catalog editing, class scheduling and advisor evaluations for undergraduate education. Responsibilities also include event coordination and management; public outreach media/online content management; coordination of student, alumni, faculty/staff, and stakeholder events.
The successful candidate will possess strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills, proficiency in office software, and excellent communication abilities. They will also be capable of working independently, solving problems effectively, and providing outstanding customer service.
With a small team of 13 tenured faculty, 8 term faculty, and 145 undergraduates, the department cultivates a family-like atmosphere that promotes personal interactions and collaboration.
