The Aerospace Corporation is hiring an Undergraduate Engineering xLab Intern.

The Aerospace Corporation’s Experiments Lab, xLab, develops prototypes, instruments, pathfinders and demonstration systems to address our customers’ hardest problems at the speed of need. We engage with our customers to conceptualize innovative solutions and deliver impactful products for ground and space and everything in between. We are looking for interns with a passion for engineering, a commitment to teamwork and a desire to help xLab make a difference.

Work Model:

This position will be located 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA

What You’ll Be Doing 

  • Working hands-on in the lab to assemble, integrate and test prototype instruments

  • Following and/or modifying test procedures and checklists

  • Analyzing test data to determine instrument performance against requirements

  • Creating reports on status and test results

  • Participating in team meetings for status and planning; responsible for meeting commitments to the team to maintain schedule for completion

  • Training and mentorship will be provided 

What Corporate Skills You’ll Bring 

  • Must work well in a team environment  

  • Proficiency in MS word tools, particularly using excel to chart data

  • Knowledge of Atlassian tools such as JIRA or Confluence

  • Interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work with other internal and external organizations 

What You Need to be Successful 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline  

  • Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a degree program full-time after completion of the internship.

  • Junior class standing completed by internship start date 

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0  

  • Experience in the use of basic mechanical assembly tools and measurements

  • Experience working in a lab environment

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. 

  • Transcripts required 

How You Can Stand Out 

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these: 

  • Prior experience in a hardware development laboratory

  • Mechanical engineering experience in both classroom and lab environment

  • Knowledge of space hardware requirements

  • Active security clearance

We offer a competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business.  The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below.  Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
