Vocal Music Director for a Musical Production

General Description: The Vocal Music Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of music in a production.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the Artistic Director on interpretation/vision of the production.
- Oversees and communicates information to the music staff.
- Attends production meetings.
- Researches specific styles of music (where appropriate).
- Runs music auditions.
- Assists Artistic Director and Choreographer with casting the show.
- Teaches cast and chorus all vocal selections.
- Communicates vocal needs to the Choreographer.
Specific Duties:
- Hires Rehearsal Accompanist.
- Selects music for auditions.
- Submits vocal rehearsal schedule to Artistic Director for master schedule.
- Runs vocal rehearsals.
- Communicates tempos and other musical needs to the Orchestra Conductor.
- Attends all run throughs and dress rehearsals.
- Creates a microphone plot.
- Coordinates with the Sound Engineer for microphone checks.
Requirements: The candidate for this position will hold a bachelor's degree in music and possess at least three years of musical theatre experience. A teaching degree is preferred, but not necessary. Good communication skills with adults and students are essential. A criminal background check is required by the district before employment.
