I. Job Summary
Directs the development of financial controls and strategic plans consistent with established corporate strategic plans and ensures their proper execution.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
- Directs the financial control function including all aspects of profit center accounting and control, cost and operation analysis, and administrative systems and procedures in adherence with prescribed corporate and division policies.
- Formulates, recommends and installs policies and programs which will enable the division to recognize economic opportunities and realize maximum benefits from such opportunities.
- Develops quarterly estimates and long range financial and operational forecasts for the division/department. Reports on progress toward approved objectives.
- Accumulates, analyzes and reports to management complete information regarding results of operations and financial condition of the division/department, including cash flow and investment components.
- Coordinates the development of capital expenditure requests. Maintains appropriate project accounting controls on approved projects.
- Provides advice and counsel to senior management on interpretation of operating results and trends. Assists with recommendations on countermeasures where required.
- Maintains and supports prescribed programs of employee relations, health and safety, training and development, compensation and benefits for all staff in the division/department.
- Stays abreast of trends and developments in finance for application in division/department. Recommends changes in policies and procedures as appropriate.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of managerial employees. This includes:
- Direct supervision of 4 to 5 full-time employees.
IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (accredited) in Accounting, Business Administration or similar area of study, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or G.E.D. (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience: Ten years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
- None required.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
- Must be authorized to work in the US.
- Required to work at WM’s corporate office in Houston, TX.
