Occupational Summary:
This position is responsible for the coordination and management of various international academic programs of the Sanford School of Public Policy, including: Global Policy and Governance (Geneva), Summer School for Future Leaders in Development (IIM - India), Duke Summer Internships in India, J. Kirk Felsman Program on Children in Adversity Fellowship Program, and Duke Engage. This person will work closely with the individual faculty directors of each of those programs and the Assistant Dean for Academic Programs and Student Affairs in the development and facilitation of programmatic and administrative functions. In addition, the person will consult with staff in other Sanford School offices who are resources, such as the offices of Communications, Finance, and Career Services. The person will provide key assistance and support in development of the vision and strategy for furthering the School’s international academic programs. The Assistant Dean for Academic Programs and Student Affairs is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the position.
Work Performed
A detailed description of functional areas and tasks follows:
Program Planning and Management: (25%).
- Making operational and programmatic decisions that will have a significant impact on the success of international programs. Developing, coordinating and advising faculty directors and Asst. Dean regarding international program policy.
- Monitoring and evaluating effectiveness of current programs; recommending and implementing modifications to improve program effectiveness.
- Researching options, making recommendations and supporting the development of the vision and strategy to further the School’s international academic programs. Implementing new initiatives that are developed.
- Leading and managing the visa application process for students and faculty in the programs listed below and others as appropriate. Assisting and advising other Sanford offices with visa activities as needed.
- Supervising students/interns who provide program assistance.
- Manage relationships with any outside consultants/independent contractors.
Program Administration:
Recruiting and Admissions (25%)
- Managing recruitment efforts including outreach inside Duke, to other universities.
- Hosting information webinars and in-person events.
- Managing the online application process, updating the application, monitoring applications as they come in, receiving letters of recommendation, and confirming receipt of applications.
