Occupational Summary
The Senior Director Learning Innovation Systems supports the Vice Provost for Learning Innovation and Digital Education (VPLIDE) in the overall leadership and management of the organization. The role is responsible for managing the day-to-day administration and operations of digital education, digital learning infrastructure, and product design and development.
Work Performed / Responsibilities / Duties:
Leadership, strategy, and operations
• Supports the Vice Provost’s strategic vision for the Office of Learning Innovation and collaborates on developing and implementing the overall strategy for digital education, online and lifetime learning initiatives at Duke, including planning, and negotiating new project partnerships with Duke schools, programs, and faculty.
• Provides partnership and support for the VPLIDE. Serves as backup for the VPLIDE at both internal and external meetings and functions as needed.
• Demonstrates and upholds the organization’s values of diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion through building a more just and equitable community of learning and society, within and beyond the Duke community.
• Drives operational excellence culturally and technologically. Mentors and supports staff in program and project management, process improvement and change management.
• Ensures collaboration and cooperation among diverse Learning Innovation teams and staff to meet core responsibilities and strategic goals and targets.
• Collaborates with the Vice Provost and executive team on the organizational vision and operations strategy for Learning Innovation, including the launch new teams, initiatives, and partnerships.
Digital Education, Learning Innovation, and Infrastructure
• As Sr Director for Learning Innovation Systems, directly supervises the Director for Learning Technologies and Infrastructure, the Director for Digital Learning Experience, and the Director for Special Projects.
• Plans, implements, and assesses activities to foster innovation in uses of technology for teaching and learning, and innovation in teaching generally, both online and in-person. Plans and supports programs for exploring new and emerging digital learning technologies and pedagogies.
• Promotes coordination of effort and collaborative planning across units responsible for academic technology support at Duke; works in a collegial manner on cross-institutional academic projects.
• Forms partnerships with private industry, foundations, other educational institutions and the local community to leverage resources and encourage exchange of information around IT trends and strategies.
• Contributes to Duke’s national presence by giving conference presentations, representing Duke in Ivy Plus and other peer groups, and other external activities.
• Provides leadership in investigating and staying current on trends in academic technologies, teaching and learning innovation, and online learning. Reviews professional literature; networks with educational technology, teaching and learning and online learning professionals outside the University; and participates in activities to stay informed about trends in digital learning, lifelong and continuing education, and higher education digital transformation.

- Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred: Ph.D. or other terminal degree.

- 10 years of related experience in education, University administration, compliance,
