Summary

The Detectors Engineering group at Varex Imaging produces high quality innovative X-Ray imaging detectors for the medical, industrial, security and other industries. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic summer intern to help our mechanical engineering team create production tooling for standardizing detector assembly as well as conduct verification testing for detectors we are launching this year. Work will involve designing, modelling, prototyping and build components for X-ray Imagers or tooling for assembling them. In addition, work will involve reviewing and understanding project requirements and writing and implementing rigorous testing procedures to verify that the detector meets those requirements. A senior engineer will be available to train and mentor this individual.

Job Description - What you will do:

  • Learn about the requirements and design of X ray detectors and how we build them.
  • Design and implement fixtures or changes to procedure to improve manufacturing.
  • Create CAD 3D and 2D drawings and documentation.
  • Identify causes of and improve yield issues in production.
  • Review requirements and come up with verification test protocols for new detectors.
  • Conduct testing: designing and creating tools/fixtures as required.
  • Document the tests developed and performed.
  • Report weekly to the ME team on progress.

Skills - What you will bring:

  • Experience designing parts and assemblies in CAD and prototyping parts in a shop environment.
  • Proficiency with basic shop tools and 3D printing required.
  • Ability to analyze data and summarize testing with reports in / Word / Excel / PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated use of scientific method and design of experiments.
  • Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting.
  • Ability to self-direct, gather information, and complete projects independently.

Mechanical Engineering student, who has completed at least 3 completed full academic years (or equivalent) by the start of the internship.
