Job Overview

Develop and manage a broad array of academic research related programs, operations and supporting resources for campus wide initiatives/activities for the University of Cincinnati (UC), UC Health (UCH) and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) in a designated program area within the UC Cancer Center (UCCC), as expected of a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer center.

 

Reporting to the Cancer Center Associate Director of Administration, the UC Cancer Center Program Director Manager for Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) is charged to ensure that the education and training structure that serves learners across a graduated educational continuum – K-12, undergraduate, medical school, predoctoral, postdoctoral, early-stage faculty investigator, junior faculty and emerging mentors – within the Cancer Center is well-structured, coordinated across multiple initiatives, effective, and promotes transdisciplinary collaborations. CRTEC is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and aspires to increase the diversity of the cancer workforce through targeted education, training, and mentorship.

Essential Functions

  • Assume management responsibility for a wide range of projects/tasks of which decisions and quality of execution have significant impact and influence on programmatic areas.
  • Develop, manage and modify activities within the programmatic areas assigned.
  • Benchmark, design and implement high quality programs according to NCI guidelines and reviewer expectation as determined by UCCC leadership.
  • Direct project teams and oversee group programs, provide instruction as necessary.
  • Create long- and short-term action plans that advance the UCCC’s priorities around specific programs and programmatic activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty members and leadership across the campuses, as well as, with community members and other important external constituencies.
  • Perform needs assessment by evaluating programs and programmatic areas for quality, appropriateness of content and effectiveness of materials, and makes and implements recommendations.
  • Develop, document and implement policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Document and maintain records/archives of activities for future review of NCI site reviewers
  • Develop procedures and work with cancer center administration to track metrics and generate reports to assess trainee development and progression from trainees across the K-12, undergraduate, medical school, predoctoral, postdoctoral, early-stage faculty investigator, junior faculty continuum.
  • Curate professional developmental activities, coordinate appropriate connections, and assess trainee opportunities across the train spectrum; provide instruction as needed.

Essential Functions Continued

  • Oversee budget, approve and monitor expenditures and prepare financial reports.
  • Act as a liaison with internal departments, external entities and community organizations.
  • Represent UCCC directors and administration at committee meetings on subjects of considerable complexity, with substantial authority to make commitments.
  • Coordinate communications with appropriate internal and external entities.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Eight (8) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

  • Four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience may require at least three (3) years of supervision.
