Job Description:

We are searching for the best talent for a Assoc. Director, Nonclinical Engineering located in Cincinnati, OH.

Purpose: The Associate Director of Non-clinical Engineering position facilitates the business needs for translation of R&D product development towards clinical implementation via innovative non-clinical test method design and implementation. The incumbent will have the responsibility for the generation and dissemination of objective non-clinical evidence to shape product development, and gain regulatory approval, globally. As part of the Preclinical Research team, this role is responsible for the design, development, execution, and interpretation of programs and studies to evaluate the safety and performance of medical devices.  This role strives to replace, reduce, and refine traditional animal models with novel non-animal models, or enhanced methods, based on bioengineering principles.

The Associate Director of Engineering understands business strategy, customer needs, project priorities, and future direction.  They use this information to plan and prioritize work/resources, establish and maintain cross-functional relationships within J&J, and with external experts. The Associate Director of Engineering applies deep technical expertise in engineering disciplines and biologic / physiologic systems to develops existing and new test methods for a broad portfolio of J&J medical devices. The Associate Director of Engineering serves as a role model and mentor to other staff.

Under general direction and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position will: 

  • Manage and conduct advanced research efforts in new product safety testing and new test method development.
  • Conducts research of a highly complex nature where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible, variable factors. Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts.
  • Provides leadership and influence through role model behavior. Establish high standards of achievement within the J&J technical community.
  • Works independently in any of the following areas: translational science, bioengineering and anatomy & physiology.  Also, familiarity with clinical surgical environment is essential.
  • Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results and disseminating to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates the ability to execute complex, multi-disciplinary technical projects. Share’s knowledge and influences colleagues in other disciplines.
  • Demonstrates a broad knowledge of JnJ MedTech’s product offerings.
  • Actively serves the preclinical team as a teacher, coach, and mentor. Provides guidance and work direction to lower-level research staff.
  • Provide technical product inquiry support.
  • Due diligence assessments for new products and companies.

Education:

  • Masters degree in Engineering discipline with 10+ years of industry experience in medical devices
  • Track record of contributions to the scientific/engineering fields – evidenced by patents and publications
  • Understanding of scientific process and high ethics reflecting Credo values
  • In-depth knowledge of the electromechanical engineering discipline (e.g., mechatronics, robotics, etc.)
  • Solid knowledge of anatomy, physiology, tissue types & the dynamics of biological systems
  • Demonstration of successful non-animal models for medical device testing, including ex-vivo bioreactor design and implementation
  • Effective oral, written, & presentation communication
  • Gives presentations, lectures, seminars (internal or external) based on personal scholarship and research; and/or exhibits work at a
