Software Developer 4
OracleAbout the role
The Role
We’re looking for a Principal Software Developer (IC4) who loves building bridges, not just between APIs, but between teams, data, and ideas. You’ll design and deliver internal tools and systems that power decision-making, observability, and automation across OCI’s strategic customer programs.
Your work will directly enhance how OCI can operate smarter, scale sub-linearly to customer growth, and ship the right thing faster. You’ll be part systems integrator, part product engineer, part architect, collaborating with TPMs, data engineers, and product leaders to bring order to complexity.
About the Team
Strategic Customer Engineering (SCE) sits at the sharp edge of OCI’s growth engine — partnering directly with the world’s most influential companies to deliver dedicated cloud regions, AI infrastructure, and next-generation enterprise systems.
This new horizontal engineering team tackles cross-cutting scale challenges across SCE, building internal platforms, tools, and integrations that connect systems, automate workflows, and unlock speed at scale. We operate like an internal startup with executive sponsorship and the mandate to remove friction from OCI’s fastest-moving initiatives.
Preferred Experience
- 8+ years of professional software development experience.
- Experience designing scalable systems in cloud environments.
- Strong background in APIs, data modeling, and service orchestration.
- Familiarity with modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, IaC, monitoring).
- Prior exposure to data or analytics systems is a plus.
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment (3+ days onsite per week in Nashville HQ).
Why This Role Matters
OCI’s Strategic Customer Engineering org builds the infrastructure that powers AI transformation and dedicated cloud for the world’s most strategic enterprises. This team ensures that growth is sustainable, measurable, and scalable, engineering the connective tissue that enables every other pillar to move faster.
Okay, but what I am really going to do?
- Design and build internal tools and services that automate and integrate workflows across data, Jira, dashboards, and operational systems.
- Lead development of scalable internal APIs, data pipelines, and leveraging low-code / no-code tools for rapid development when it makes sense.
- Partner with TPMs and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous problems into elegant, maintainable software.
- Instrument and monitor systems to ensure reliability, performance, and observability.
- Contribute to architectural patterns, code reviews, and developer experience improvements.
- Advocate for clean engineering practices and pragmatic design in a rapidly evolving org.
You Might Be a Fit If You…
- Thrive in ambiguity and love turning messy systems into clean, maintainable architectures.
- Are fluent in multiple programming languages (e.g. Python, Go, Java, or TypeScript) and comfortable choosing the right tool for the job.
- Have deep experience with APIs, system integrations, and cloud-native architecture (OCI, AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Enjoy building internal tools, developer platforms, or automation systems that improve team velocity.
- Understand the value of data — how to collect it, shape it, and make it actionable.
- Appreciate a small-team startup energy inside a large enterprise environment.
- Communicate with clarity and empathy; you bring others along with your ideas.
