As Head of Property & Casualty (P&C) Claims, you'll be responsible for the service excellence and value we deliver globally for the Claims function. You'll ensure Claims' market unit activities are aligned with Global claims delivery and best practices, working closely with Underwriting and Reserving to enable coordinated, effective feedback loops. 


This Managing Director position has oversees a team of Claims leaders and expert professionals and carries the responsibility for creating a strong network of Claims leaders supporting the Market Units.  As well as ensuring that all Claims Managers adhere to best practice claims practices, working closely with Claims Operations, Technical Accounting Operations and P&C Reserving to ensure timely feedback of claims portfolio developments and/or individual claims developments.  
 

The role reports to the COO of P&C Reinsurance and is a member of the P&C Operations Leadership Team, as well as the extended Global Management Team. You will also contribute as needed to Swiss Re Board Committee meetings, as required, on Complex Claims topics.

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • 'Lead from the front' on performance culture 
  • Drive, shape and implement P&C Operations' strategic priorities globally, engaging cross-functional partners and market unit teams to enable coordinated, effective delivery. 
  • Cultivate a strong presence in the market and strengthen relationships with our global clients to better understand their needs and where P&C Claims expertise and insights can support. 
  • Oversee Key Cases and take active role in coordinating a strategy for appropriate reserving and resolution
  • Oversee Large Loss Management team, responsible for quarterly large loss oversight and reporting and for coordination of processes for estimations of large catastrophic events
  • Strengthen Claims' portfolio analytics skills to enable early identification trends and opportunities to act; ensure teams proactively feed insights back to the business to influence appropriate steering and decision making for portfolio and client strategies
  • Support an environment of growth, diversity and inclusion; actively contributing to talent attraction, development and retention 
  • Review and oversee all Governance and Compliance-related topics for Claims globally and coordinate Claims actions and support regulator engagement where required

 

 

About You

 

An ideal candidate will be confident in representing Swiss Re at the C-suite level, in industry bodies and internally with Senior Management Teams or Boards of Directors. 

 

We would like you to have:

 

  • University degree or equivalent with strong legal and financial acumen.
  • 10-15 years of progressively responsible experience and end-to-end understanding of the (re)insurance value chain, and specifically with expertise and leadership in claims.
  • Evidence of thought expertise in (Re)insurance Claims.
  • Extensive (re)insurance industry, client and insurance network and strong reputation.

For Armonk, NY the estimated base salary range for this position is $240,000 to $400,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
