PURPOSE:
The Office of Inclusive Excellence advances excellence at Cal State Monterey Bay through inclusion and equity. The Office of Inclusive Excellence focuses on promoting a campus environment where all students, faculty and staff feel a sense of belonging, are able to fully engage in campus life, and are able to achieve their academic or professional goals.
Reporting to the President, the Associate Vice President of Inclusive Excellence provides strategic, transformational leadership in building an equity-minded, student-ready, inclusive institution that welcomes and supports diverse students, staff, and faculty, whereby diversity is inclusive of a broad range of identities and their intersections, i.e., gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, veteran status, political affiliation, etc. The position reports to the President, is a member of the President’s Cabinet and co-chairs the President’s Committee on Equity & Inclusion. The position advances an equity, social justice and inclusive excellence mindset in all college-wide initiatives, including strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
In support of the University’s senior leadership, this position provides thought leadership in identifying pedagogical strategies for leveraging our student body as an educational asset and to advance a culture of equity and inclusion; supporting equity and inclusion objectives in faculty and staff hiring and development; and developing student support programs that enhance students’ multicultural competence.
