Inside the Role

The Purchasing and Operations Manager at Daimler Coaches North America plays a key role within the Spare Parts and Purchasing Department, responsible for developing a centralized purchasing function for the entire company. This role will lead sourcing initiatives, establish purchasing processes, and ensure compliance with Daimler Truck standards and external regulations. Additionally, the role will involve working closely with the Financial Department to align financial and material management systems, ensuring a seamless flow of data between purchasing activities and financial reporting. The manager will also take charge of yearly contract negotiations and drive cost-effective purchasing strategies based on departmental budget planning.

Position offers a starting salary range of $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 USD 

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will Drive at DCNA:

Centralized Purchasing and Process Implementation:

  • Establish a centralized purchasing structure across all departments, implementing standardized purchasing processes that align with Daimler Truck requirements and external regulations.

  • Develop and enforce purchasing procedures, ensuring that all departments submit purchase requests with required documentation for approval.

  • Implement and control a value-driven approval hierarchy to ensure transparent and efficient purchasing activities.

  • Collaborate with Daimler Truck's central purchasing functions to integrate corporate purchasing standards into Daimler Coaches North America.

  • Negotiate large annual contracts based on department-specific budget forecasts, driving cost optimization and ensuring long-term supplier agreements.

Sourcing and Supplier Management:

  • Lead sourcing efforts, identifying suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the continuity and reliability of the supply chain.

  • Conduct supplier performance reviews and risk assessments, taking proactive measures to maintain a stable and high-quality supply base.

  • Build strong relationships with key suppliers to improve pricing, terms, and delivery timelines.

  • Drive the implementation of yearly contracts for recurring purchases, providing departments with more predictability and accountability for their purchasing needs.

  • Collaboration with Financial and Material Management Systems:

  • Work closely with the Financial Department to ensure the alignment of financial data with purchasing and material management activities.

  • Oversee the integration of purchasing data from the material management ERP system into the financial ERP system, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and auditing.

  • Collaborate with finance to track expenses, monitor budget adherence, and analyze purchasing data to ensure that cost control targets are met.

Budgeting and Cost Management:

  • Support departments in developing budget plans that include yearly purchasing forecasts, ensuring that expenditures are well-documented and aligned with operational needs.

  • Monitor and report on purchasing activities to ensure adherence to departmental budgets, providing insights to department heads for planning and decision-making.

  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives by analyzing purchasing patterns, consolidating suppliers, and negotiating better terms for high-volume purchases.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure that all purchasing activities comply with Daimler Truck's procurement guidelines and external regulatory requirements.

  • Implement processes for audit-ready documentation, maintaining complete and accurate records of all purchase requests, approvals, and orders.

  • Provide regular reports on purchasing performance, compliance, and cost management to senior leadership.

  • Train and guide departments on compliance with the established purchasing processes and systems, ensuring accountability across the organization.
